How Long Can I Keep 777?

I'm waiting for some loose 777 to be marked down at my local superstore. If it gets down to $9 or $10, I'm going to get some.
Question - I don't shoot a lot, and a couple of pounds will probably last me a couple of years. Will it keep OK in my gun cabinet at normal home temp's and humidity?

Thanks - IM jaybe :)

I don't know about T7 but I've had a little bit of Goex 2f for about 15 years or so and it's still just as good as it was when I bought it. It's in the original can stored in thegun cabinet.I've always just taken enough out to shoot a few rounds and have never even had the can outside. Don't really know what the shelf life is supposed to be for any powder though. Shelf life has probably been expired for 10 years!

I've stored Triple Se7en, Pyrodex, APP, and Goex all at home on a shelf, and it sat there for years. Just keep it in the original container and open it only when you need to shoot it. It will be fine. A dry cool place is best, so I store mine on a shelf in one back closet in a cool part of the house. Its fine. When the stuff comes on sale I buy lots of it. Then I have plenty to shoot.

Cayugad, I've got a stash of T7 from a Wallyworld deal last year (2004 actually)and a stash of Pyro P from a prior purchase (maybe 2002 - am running low on Pyro P). Both powders are kept in the same storage box in the same closet in my house. Been noticing the T7 is a little erratic but the Pyro P is as good as ever. Recently opened two new bottles of each and, based upon my own limited experience, would have to say the Pyro is holding upmuch better.

And dangit! I've still got several pounds of the T7 left!

I personally never get as much Triple S7en because they never have great deals on it. The price around here might come down to $12.00 even $10.00 a pound. Then I grab five of them and that's enough for the year. Pyrodex on the other hand will drop down to $7.00 and that's cheaper then Goex I buy from Powder Inc. so I usually buy them out. I have not noticed the Triple Se7en getting finicky, but it usually never gets over two years old. Also I make sure I shoot it off according to age of the powder. Now Goex and Pyrodexwill keep for ever it seems.

I may be of more help because I started shooting Triple Se7en as soon as it came on the market but do not shoot as much as some folks here. I have had open cans of T7 for more than three years with no deteriation in fact I am very surprized they have held up as well as they have with the enviroment I live in. I would not worry about the age of T7 if it was stored properly.

As long as you keep the container lid on tight it should last a long time. I have some old DuPont black powder I bought in the 1960's, in the original can with the lid on, and it still works OK. There's no reason why 777 shouldn't last every bit as long.

Thanks, guys. Livbucks: I always wondered what those three 7's stood for - now I know!

BTW - I just fired some Federal 209's that were in a gun cabinet I bought 35 years ago - they worked just fine! I couldn't tell the difference between them and some new ones.

Now if they'll just mark those bottles of 777 down below $13.90, I might buy a couple of pounds.

you must have missed your local wal-marts disposal sale - I picked up 12 bottles $9.00 each... + a bunch of other stuff - gotta love wal-mart end of the year disposals...

Turn the bottle over, on the bottomthere should be a orange sticker that shows you the powder date.
