245 grain Ball-ets for fun
 

Idecided to try the 245 grain Ball-ets today. I started off with 80 grains of Goex 2f and a MMP sub base under them. The accuracy was outstanding. I then switched over to 80 grains of Pyrodex RS and noticed the accuracy slipped a little. Since I was having so much fun with the Goex 2f I just kept shooting and they just kept going in the same hole. I was amazed. The little Knight Wolverine LK-II behaved flawless. Granted this was only 30 yards off a bench, but the way the ball-ets were grouping was amazing. I wish I'd kept track of the number of them I actually shot. I was swabbing about every fourthshot.

I then stuck another dot up and got out some Pinnacle 3f and jumped it to 85 grains. I swabbed the barrel real good and was shocked at how much difference the Pinnacle did with the accuracy. I was sure it was not me, as the group was nice and tight but just not where it should be.

So I swabbed the barrel clean and went to 85 grains of Triple Se7en which although a little high shot real well actually. So we dug out the Pyrodex P and that like the RS shot to the right a little bit. All in all it was a lot of fun.

I was real impressed with the way the ballets shot using Goex 2f. It would make an excellent little deer load for a person that did not want to spend a lot of money on projectiles. Although I think the 270 grain Ballets shot a better group then the 245 grain...

Looks like any of those loads will put meat in the freezer to me. I may have to break out the Goex again and finish it off. Noticing the new target, you must have completely killed your box of Rice Checks a while back.(I think it was rice checks wasn't it?)I'm disappointed you didn'tstick with your cereal killer thing a bit longer.

Ever tried the Wolverine with Goex and round balls?

This Wolverine LK-II with 70 grains of Goex and a .490 patched roundball is very accurate. I have shot only a couple hundred roundball through it, but it does a real good job. I could easily small game hunt with it and even deer huntwith it.

cayugad, this may sound dumb but.... I've been shooting bp for quite a while too and this is the first time I heard of MMP sub base. What is it?

I'm guessing that cayugad used the sub base under the ball-et to prevent damage to the rear of the ball-et and affect accuracy. Maybe he'll respond when he comes back online.

cayugad: Where do you get the 270 grain ball-ets? I ordered some 245's from Cabela's, but they don't have the 270's.

Cayugad - OK, so from what I've seen in the links, does the MMP sub base
act sort of like a wad and the tapered end slides into the back of the ball-et and sort of acts like a 'shock absorber? I wonder how it would work with a flat based bullet like a maxihunter???
