Loads for Jim Shockey Gold

I finally go my hands on some Jim Shockey Gold powder - got a pound of ffg and a pound of fffg. Went to the APP website - they only show data for the ffg. And show load 100 gr. and 120 loads for 240 sabot bullets. Is this stuff like T7, where the upper limit is 120 grains; or is it more like Pyrodex RS? Can I load a 250 Shockwave to 2,000 fps in an Omega? It looks like it going to take maybe 135 grains of ffg to get there. Don't have a clue how much "faster" the fffg burns . . .

Roskoe

From what I have read and the old APP powder that I used -it is not t7 it is cleaner but it is not as powerful anyway across a chrono it isn't. I would believe it to be more comparable with the Pryos, but again a heck of a lot cleaner...

I would guess you should be able to reach 2000fps - I am shooting 260's at 1850fps with a 100 grains of t7 - if my memory is right... I am at school right now so I can not verify that...

There is one individualon another site claiming 2400fps but I do not remember powder or charge. He even shows a picture of his chrono reading - hard for me to believe but i guess any thing is possible anymore.

I've used 1.5 lbs, and its just like pyro for strength. I used up to 120grains by volume= 109-111 grains by Actual Wieght on my powder scales.

Way cleaner than pyro or Tripp7, and no crudring.

I have been shootingAPP 150FF in my Omega .It reads 2170 fps for a 250 Shock Wave on my chrony. The sweet spots[ tightest group] is @135 and 100APP FF. But it shoots up to 150 with out going over an inch, and the primers are not sticking or flattening. It appears to be a slower burnig powder that it takes a long barrel to get the best results. Lee

Thanks, gentlemen. I just opened the ffg can and it is, indeed, about as coarse as grape nuts cereal. Plan to do some testing over the next month or so and will post results. Regards. Roskoe

Yes, Please post the results you find I'm very interested inyour results. I've heard there is a slight (50fps) advantage over the gold vs. the normal APP. I sighted in at 100yd. with T7 and a barnes spitfire 245gr. and when I tried the Gold 3F loose or the sticks in gold my POI moved about 6-8" high. In some very limited test I done. I don't know if it was faster though, I don't have a chrony. Much cleaner, NO crud ring, sharper recoil.
