Old-School Hogs

Finally, got the pic to take!

Gun here is a CVA .45 Kentucky kit gun. Load: 250 TC Maxi over 66 gns Pyro "P" (1585 fps).

Shot hit over the eye in thick 'bloodweed' cover. Base of bullet found above shoulder... travelled through 18" of hog. It dropped him like a bad transmission.

Man I love hunting with these guns!

Nice hog! Nice shot (if that's where you were aiming)! "...Like a bad transmission" - I like that.
Thanks for the pic.

How far away was the hog when you got the chance to let loose? Excellent looking rifle you have there. And a very nice hog.. congratulations...

good shot even if that's not where you were aiming, don't care what anyone says, a shot that "drops 'em where they stand" is a good shot, oh nice hog

This hog was in some pretty thick stuff...

The shot was no more than 30' away. I was keeping the wind in my face so he couldn't quite make me out.

At first I wasn't even sure it was really a hog, there was suddenly this hulking, black mass where one hadn't been before. Not real distinct though, almost like a trick of light and shadow.

Decided it was a hog, and took aim where I thought the shoulder would be, then it started moving and I realized that I had been aiming at the wrong end! Glad I didn't shoot but that's how bad visibility was in there.

When I took the shot, the hog had moved up to a trail that crossed the one I was following. The hog was just a dark shape, but I could tell that it was now either facing me directly or facing dead away. Then he started swinging his head from side to side trying to pick up a scent - I could now tell that he was facing me directly.Again, this is at about 30' in thick stuff.

I aimed center mass and hoped that if the shot didn't kill him it would at least make him too sick to interfere with my escape!
