My Own Target I made.

Here is my own target I made. You can aim for the center of the "X" as long as you can see it. Then you aim for the green circle when you can no longer see the X. You may print this target and try it if you like.

I need your opinion on a few things. I really like green and I think It is a good color and I can see it real good. Do you think red would be better? Or should I stay with green? Let me know how it goes shooting it.

Thanks for your help!

I can't remember where I read this, but I heard green was easier to see than red as your eyes get older. I beleive the thread was about open fiber optic sights. They're almost all made with greenover the breech and red at the muzzle when they should be made the opposite way. My two cents??

My thoughts exactly. And in very low light, you can still see the green pretty well while the red almost disappears. On my first T/C Black Diamond, I replaced the red fiber optic rod on the front sight with a green one. That turned out to be too much green -with the rear open sight having green on each side of it as well. So I got rid of the rear open sight and went to a Williams receiver sight on the rear. Great setup.

I only kept green but I made some modifications. I made the "X" thicker so you could see it better and I make the top part look better.

Here's your target I used yesterday at the 30 yard line. I was shooting some of the very thin muslin patches with awonderwad. The first shot hit high, and to be honest I think I took too much of a sight picture with the center of the circle, forgetting a full six o'clock hold postion. After that I settled down and shot four more (as I like to shoot a five shot or more group to discount flyers). Overall for a patched roundball that I can load under the muzzle with simple thumb pressure, I am kind of impressed with the way it shoots. Once the snow melts (we are having a small blizard here today) I can get more distance and see if they fall apart at longer ranges. The reason I think this is important is even my smoothbore will shoot accurate at close distances. It's when you get some distance from the target that things go downhill. But until spring I have to be happy with what I have to throw lead at.

RE: My Own Target I made.

Sabotloader designed an excellent target for those that shoot scopes and for open sights. I printed out a bunch of SharpShooters because I got a new printer and had to get rid of a lot of ink in the old one, and had a lot of red. So I printed out about three of Sabotloaders untilI ran out of blue ink and then printed out about ten of sharpshooters until the red ran out.

Perhaps Sabotloader would like to post his targets for others.
