HORNADY 380 HP CONICALS ?

I tried some hornady 380 grain HP lead bullets to day out of my t/c flinter that also have a hollow base.I drop 80 grains goes 3f down the barrel without a wad .
The first question seem the lube they use is a little to hard and would like to remove it and use my own lube mix,how would one remove the old dry lube they use.
Next question seem I thumb start the conical HP into the barrel ( second driving band)with out problems but when using my starter hammer it seem to deform the bullet a little .My starter hammer I use is a t/c hammer I also tried two other hammer I have and all seem to have the same problem.

RE: HORNADY 380 HP CONICALS ?

Lonewolf, I shoot the 385 hbhp{hollowbase hollow point}in my sidelock. The lube that is on the bullet works great !! But, if you want to remove it, try a old tooth brush. Now for the bullet deformation, try a bullet starter. They are inexpensive, and they really do work. If you need more info, leave post.;)

Lonewolf..

I've been shooting the Great Plains Conicals and found I need my roundball short starter to set them without doing damage to them. They sure have a down range thump to them. The other day I was shooting them with 100 grains of Pyrodex and it was knocking the snow off the back stop for sure... good luck with them.

turkeyhunter that is a fine looking bird you got there. :D

one of my favorite sports with a .62 caliber smoothbore rifle 90 grains of Goex 2f and 100 grains of #6 bird shot.
