Moister Proofing

I know you need to cover the muzzle but how about the nipple? Where doese the moister get in? Is it between the cap and the nipple? How doese the tire cap help? Also what about if you have musket caps?

You can use simple Handi Wrap from your kitchen. The cling stretch plastic wrap will go over the muzzle and keep that dry, and a small piece over the nipple will keep that dry. You can shoot right through it all. I use a tire valve stem cap cover because it is easier then the plastic and it acts as a second safety.

Ww all have our little ways we have worked out over the years.I use a beeswax candle to put wax on the sides of the nipple so it is sealed when I put the cap on, with a greased or waxed patch around the ball it is sealed good.

Do you lay the hammer down on the valve stem cap?

yes, lay the hammer on the stem cap and jsut before you shoot, cock the hammer and remove the cap.

I had bought a nice little package from Tradtions that had minature rubber black things that look like condoms. You just roll them over the barrel. The kit also had some small pinkish looking small pieces of tubing that would go over the sides of a #11 cap. I got them from the sportsmans guide when I bought a muzzleloader. If you buy them from there by themselves the shipping will be too high. Hre is the link. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=56813

That's basically what a finger cot looks like and if you go to a Wal Mart that has a fish tank section, you can buy a length of fish tank tube that you can cut yourself and do the same as those little pink things.

Pack of 100 water balloons - $.99
Drip of birthday candle wax - less than $.01
The candles can also double as fire starters if needed , and the balloons are just plain fun to play with if you get bored .
