Does anyone know if the tc firehawk has a removable breech?

No it doesnt. I have one in .54 caliber. It was one of Thompson Centers earlier inlines. They are fine shooters though and still clean up well. I love mine and it is really accurate.

As AmericanPioneer said, no, the Firehawk does not have a removeable breech, but don't let that deter you thinking about buying one. I have an 50 cal Encore and a 50 cal Firehawk and I'll tell ya what, the Firehawk can throw a conical 10x more accurately than my Encore. There's a big difference in the Firehawk (1:38 twist) and the Encore (1:28 twist).

I hunt with both as the Encore is great for shooting sabots providing flat-shooting distance, but the Firehawk really shines when shooting conicals when I really want to "thump" something :D. I wish TC still made a 1:38 (or even a 1:48) inline [&o].

Finally, I find the Firehawk just as easy to clean as the Encore. Hope this helps.

My Firehawk is my favorite muzzleloader besides my Renegade kit rifle in .50 caliber. It is light and easy to carry. I paid 149.00 for it new from Bass Pro years ago. It is stainless with a black synthetic stock. The barrel has the quick alignment system feature on the front. I think this was one of the first rifles with it. It even came with the 209 conversion bolt and scope bases. The ramrod is the rubber coated one also which is more costly. I think they were on closeout. It is an excellent rifle and I dont mind it not having a removable breech plug. I did buy a flame thrower 209 nipple for it though. It works great. I usually use a NO Excuses 535 gr. conical with 100 grains of loose American Pioneee Powder fffg. Did use Cleanshot until AAP came out. These shoot really well. I buy these off the internet from no excuses bullets. This year I tried some remington gold roundballs, prelubed ticking patches and 100 grains of loose powder. This load was really accurate even with the 1 in 38" twist. I picked up some of the fired patches and they were picture perfect of what they should look like if they are working properly. Although these may shoot well in mine they may not in yours. You have to try different things to see what shoots best in yours. Good Lluck!!!

Hossofadoc - Out of my .50 cal Firehawk, I shoot mainly 85 - 100 gr APP loads pushing either a 385 gr Great Plains or a 410 gr Lyman Shocker. Again, I can't speak highly enough about the accuracy of my Firehawk shooting conicals with just iron sights. I should mention that I upgraded the sights to the new steel fiber optic thru FoxRidge.

This past weekend in NYS was the last time for me to get out with the guys during the special muzzleloader season. I took some ribbing during the day from the guys shooting the latest TC and Knight fast twist rifles since my Firehawk hasn't been made for so long (discontinued in 1995 or 1996 I think). "Why do you shoot a rifle that doesn't even have a removable plug?" they asked. "Why do you shoot a rifle that has a max load of 100 grs of powder?" they continued. Blah, blah, blah...

Well, at the end of the day all 8 of us discharged our rifles on our 50 yard range near our cabin and I had the last laugh. We were shooting at a little 1 inch black dot in the middle of a large white piece of paper. Although I was the only guy shooting a conical with open sights, I absolutely drilled that black dot. "Any more questions?", I asked.:D:D

Don't get me wrong, a 250 gr Shockwave in front of 130 gr of powder is a man's load, but 80 or 90 gr of powder pushing a conical is nothing to sneeze at either.

I've been watching GunBroker wondering whether I should try for a .54 cal stainless Firehawk. If I was a single guy with no kids...this gun would already be in my cabinet[&o]
