my choice would be the 50 cal.you can shoot 40 cal qt's sabot made by percision bullet or work your way up to 45 cal .with the 50 you have the best of both cal.check out percision web page http://www.prbullet.com/

With the powders and bullets available today, the .45 will out-perform the .50 as a long-range rifle, particularly if you are a sabot user. I am not, so I continue to use my "out-performed" .50's!! But the new .45's will give higher velocities and flatter trajectories than the .50's. I recommend you go to http://www.huntamerica.com and ask Rattus about this matter!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

I would have to pick the .50 caliber. The .45 caliber might out preform the .50 caliber at longer ranges, but I would still go for the extra weight. Also depending on what and where you might hunt, someone mentioned on this board once, that some .45 caibers were not legal for elk in some states. The .50 caliber is an all around caliber, and the stuff to make it shoot are easier to find up where I live then for the .45 caliber.

if you are going after whitetail only,go with the 45 cal.it is flatter shooting and much longer range than the 50.the new mag 45's shoot 150 grains powder.with the need power-belts,you can't beat it for up to 200 yards.

if you are going for elk, bufflo,or afircian game,go with the 50 or 54 cal.they have more punch at shorter ranges.

just depends on what you want it for. check out the Blackpowder white smoke magazine,it has a lot of good info.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.
