RE: opinions? what bullets shoot best out of 1-28" twists
That is a hard question to answer because a lot of it will depend on the rifle itself. I own six different inline rifles and they all seem to like something a little bit different. What one shoots well the others do not. IfI had to suggest bullets to try that would probably shoot well;
for the .50 caliber 240 grain Hornady XTP 300 grain Hornady XTP 200 grain Shockwave/SST 250 grain Shockwave/SST 300 grain Shockwave/SST 250 grain Barnes Expander 300 grain Barnes Expander 260 grain Nosler Partition 300 grain Nosler Partition 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB 245 grain Powerbelts 295 grain Powerbelts 348 grain Powerbelts as for what powder charge, that would be impossible but they should range between 85-120 grains of powder depending on barrel length, among other things.... |

Typically a conical in the 300+ grain department and a saboted projectile from 200-300 grains.
Hornady XTP's and SST's are excellent as are the Great Plains Conicals. Also, you can shoot patched roundball very well from 1:28 and even faster. You just cannot push them too fast, like ina light30-60 grain load. Also try a 50-54 cal wonderwad on top of the powder and then load the PRB. For light small game loads, target plinking fun and your lowest cost shooting a PRB from faster rifling of 1:28 or faster is alot of fun. Lightly loaded PRB's are a great training load for new folks to get used to shooting ML's. But as mentioned, you really need to try a projectile with your rifle. They (ML's) often seem to all shoot just a little bit different. Good Luck! Tahquamenon |
