pistol loads

I have a little cva 45 cal. derringer, i read somewhere that the only bullet load i am to use is a pacthed roundball. But i have shot a bunch of blue sabots with a light 38 cal xtp bullet and it done alright.I done this before before i ever read about the bulletload. Recon that the reason not to use any other bullet except a pacthed round ball is because it will not have enough time to turn with the twist before it leaves the barrel. I have shot it with round ballsalso and got about the same pattern at 10 yards. The roundballs have a lot more kick than the sabot bullet load. That might be because the roundballs are alot heavier than the sabot round. Anyone have any id about this.

Perhaps the make of the pistol never even considered someone shooting a sabot out of the thing. Just be careful of barrel pressures... Most of them little belly guns were only good for a few feet anyway, although they are fun to shoot.

it shoot's about like a cheep 38 sat night special, like you said it's ony made to stick in someone gut and fire,if you shoot at a can you have to aim about two foot under it. But that close of a range it would tear you a new crapper hole.

I have a .45 caliber "long colt" derringer. It is not black powder but it does shoot off a .410 shotgun shell. Makes a good snake gun and can scare the devil out of someone. It is as you say, not very accurate, but at least with bird shot I can hit normally what I aim at.
