Blackpowder Record Books

Is there a record book for big game taken with black powder? I have searched extensively on the internet, but with no results. Thanks for the help.

He's not a monster, but I think he may be close to 130". I also took an antelope that will be close to the minimum (63")this year in WY. I'm not a big record book guy, but I've been curious to know if there was a separate record book for animals taken with a muzzleloader and what the minimum score of each specie would be. Here's this years muzz deer.

It is my understanding there is a separate classification for muzzleloading. I seem to recall it was in the Boone and Crocket scoring classes, but I could be wrong. The minimum for elk in the MZ section is supposed to be 255 inches - have heard this from several folks. Maybewe could go to Boone and Crocket's website and get the first hand information.

Either way, that is a really handsome whitetail buck - would make a great mount. :)

Well, I was wrong. Don't see any special MZ class in the Boone and Crocket website.

Just to ensure clarification on this point, the NMLRA was originally founded by and for Traditional Muzzleloading enthusiasts in 1933.
The "Longhunter's Record Book" was established to record accomplishments by traditional minded "longhunters"...muzzleloading enthusiasts usingtraditional equipment commonly used back during the early American traditionalmuzzleloading era.

Unfortunately, the NMLRAhas begunallowing entries into the"Longhunters Record Book" of game taken withmodern, long range, high powerscoped rifles, using modern shotgun primers in sealedignition systems, usingmodern powder (indeed smokeless powder) as well asmodern bullets, etc.......allbecause these rifles happento load from the front...and all coincidently in synchwithlarge financial donations to the NMLRA from various modern inline manufacturers.

This significantlydilutes / taintsthe intent and purpose of the "Longhunters Record Book"...sort of like allowing F15 Strike Eagles to competein a WWII fighter plane air show.

Just to ensure clarification on a point, the NMLRS was originally founded by Traditional Muzzleloading enthusiasts in 1933 which of course we all know was long before modern inline rifles were even established or a large part of the muzzleloading scope of events as they are today.

The "Longhunter's Record Book" of course was established by traditional minded "longhunters" enthusiasts using traditional equipment because again, when the record book was established modern inline muzzleloaders were not part of the muzzleloading world..

I do agree with Roundball on one point. I do not feel that modern inline rifles should be included in the same record as a traditional rifle. I see no problem with having a seperate catagory for the modern inline rifle. Also the addition of a scope should put that into again a different catagory. I do not mean to take anything away from the accomplishments of anyone, only that there is a true difference in the manner in which the a record animal is taken when you talk traditional rifle, scoped in line, or unscoped inline.

Other then that I do not think anything as far as the record is tainted if a seperation was made.
