RE: What powder?

I really want to shoot goex but no one in Colorado sells it. Should I order it off the internet? The only problem with that is alot of times you need to pay $20 for hazardous shipping. Any idea's? I really wanted to shoot Goex.

In that case, for the time being... get a pound of Pyrodex RS. It will work just as good. I buy my Goex on line by the case so the Hazmat Fee doesn't hurt so bad. After you have the rifle sighted in with Pyrodex and have hunted this year with it, when you get somewhere Goex is around, pickup a pound and try it. It should shoot very close to the same.

Hodgdon 777 2FG will work very well in the T/C 54 cal caplock and is widely available. You will also find it's exceptionally clean as compared to pyrodex and BP. With 777 2FG, reduce your loading data by 15%.(100gr becomes 85gr and so on).

I would shoot777 over Pyrodex every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Goex is a very good Black Powder. However I prefer Swiss BP over every other BP. Swiss is the most clean, powerful and consistant of all of the BP's I have used. I shoot about ten pounds of Swiss every year.

Try www.powderinc.com You will need to order at least five pounds, but even with the hazmat and shipping you will be saving substantially over retail.

How is this deal. It includes hazmat fee and shipping. I changed the amount to 1# instead of 25# just to see. It said total $11.00. Should Iget it? http://www.mainepowderhouse.com/catalog_gx2F.jsp

$11.00 is for the one pound of powder.. they will tack on the $25.00 haz mat fee. It is a shipping fee. They will add it somewhere and you will be paying $36.00 for a pound of powder. Look for an alternative.

Goex is not an absolute necessity, your rifle as Tahq said will even shoot good with Triple Se7en. Although if you shoot T-7 cut your load 15% because of the strength of it. Also many times you need a wad because T-7 will shred the patch for some reason. I have a $39.95 dollar CVA Mountain Stalker in .54 caliber that with 80 grains of T-7 a wonder wad and a patched roundball, it will knock deer over all day long.

The only reason I do not recommend T-7 to people just starting out is because they are not sure of loads to begin with or the strength of powders, so I always suggest Goex or Pyrodex RS because it is easier to remember how to measure it and shoot it....
