Anyone use rifle bullets?
 

I was wondering if if anyone used rifle bullets that you can buy if you reload. I have an Omega .50. Is this possible? If it is, what caliber bullets would I use? Any sabot recomendations. Not sure if this can be done. I was just thinking that this would give be the chance to fine tune everything and maybe even save some money. If anyone does this, please give me a couple of bullets to try, or get me started on a size bullet and sabot.

I know some shooters who use bullets designed for the .444 Marlin in .50 caliber muzzleloaders - like the 265 Hornady. They use .50 caliber high pressure MMP sabots made for .429 bullets.

There must be others, but at this point I can tell you I am using a 45-70 rifle bullet (.458) in an MMP .458 Orange Sabot. I am using Nosler 300 grain Partitions, both Hornady and Speer make this bullet and I sure that Sierra does also.

I have seen suggestions the Harvester makes a 50/475 sabot but I have not investigated it. Also I am thinking that PR Bullet in Canada makes a duplex sabot so that you can go down into other smaller rifle bullets.

I have just ordered some Speer .45 Gold Dot HPs, these are Pistol bullets but designed for the 454 Casual - they are quite a bit cheaper than Nosler and seem to have a very superior design as compared to the high end - Nosler - Barnes type bullets...

I shoot a lot of rifle bullets. I shoot the .458 diameter 405 grain Remington FP. I shoot a .458 Nosler Partition 300 grain which does excellent, although I am currently out of them (Sabotloader turned me on to them bless him), I also shoot some Barnes XTP .454 Casull 250 grain which are doing real good. Then there are a number of reloaded pure lead bullets I shoot that could be shot out of rifles or the bigger revolvers.

don't use rifle bullets per say but I do use hand gun bullets. The hornady xtp's and remington (both 44 cal) in hornady green sabots shoot well for me. I also have shot some 45 cal remingtons in knight black sabots

How about the .358" rifle bullets? If you can get them to go 2000 - 2500 fps they should work great.
