can anyone tell me if black mag 3 is hotter by volume than tripple 7? i have switched to it bacause of the ##### crud ring problem and 100 grns of bm3 seems to kick alot more than 100 grns oft7.

Which 777 are you comparing Black Mag'3 to? If you are using ffg 777 then the answer is yes; Black Mag'3 in my Omega registered higher velocities with 300gr. bullet/sabot projectiles both being 100gr. volume charge. Black Mag'3 is basically a fffg powder so the energy per volume is somewhat higher than if it was an ffg powder. I am a little surprised at the comment on recoil however; since I experienced higher "felt recoil" with the ffg 777 powder over same volume of Black Mag'3. My feeling was the 777 is a quicker burn powder which give a sharp recoil like a smokeless magnum rifle whereas the Black Mag'3 slightly slower burn feels more like real blackpowder even though the velocity of Black Mag'3 was greater.

I am very pleased wit Black Mag3 after switching from Tiple Seven but the recoil is more with the Balck Mag3. However, it is not so bad that I would consider not using it. In my most recent range test I shot 6 shots out of my Omgea without swabbing using 100 grains of Black Mag3 and 250 grain Shockwaves. The accuracy was excellent and I had no problem loading each shot.

thank you both. think im going to stick with it for awhile. ive gone thru six years and four bp rifles. mabe im just too particular but i love to shoot so ill just hang in there. thanks again,

Buckeye Mike: What bullet are You using in the Omega. I can only load that many shots even with Black Mag'3 if I use Powerbelts. Any of the sabot/bullet combinations are so tight in my Omega I can load two or three and then they are impossible to get down the barrel. I know my barrel seems to be the most difficult of any Omega I have heard about. It is a stainless and I have run 200 plus passes with JB bore paste and even after that it still makes loading difficult. Harvester sabots are the only ones that work and then only if I select .451 bullets not .452. I slugged the bore and it is a perfect .500 but the groves are very shallow.

I 'll be sighting my omega inthis weekend I bought some BM3. from your experience is 100gr the best amount. I'll also be using the 250gr shockwaves. I can't to see what it does. I've never shot a ML

The range results I was reporting were for 250 Shockwaves. I was very surprised about how easy they were to load because I hadfound everything but Powerbelts to be a challenge. After the first shot they were tight for the first six inches or so but after that they went down fine. Also, I was using the new "clean bore" primers for the first time.

I can only speak for myself but the 100 grain load shot very well for me.

My Beartooth magnum shoots 240 & 260 gr Deadcenters quite well with 90gr of Blackmag3. They load easily too without any cleaning between shots.

I shot 100gr. of Black Mag'3 under Harvester sabots with 300gr. bullets and chronographed three shot average of 2004fps at 7000ft. altitude 60degrees using Winchester 209 primers in my stainless .50Omega. The same load with Winchester small rifle primers in the .25ACP conversion registered 1940fps. I actually lowered my charge to 90gr. for hunting and managed to get my cow elk with that load. Shot completely through the chest cavity with no major bone contact. SST bullet.
