RE: Pursuit LT

I looked at one today while at Wal Mart crusing their sporting goods.. nice rifle.

I think with the BPI barrel a good place to start would be with the other kinds of BPI products. I personally would start at 80 grains of Pyrodex or Goex 2f and a 240 grain XTP with a black high pressure harvester sabot. I think you would get good accuracy with that. If you do, then kick you charge a little and push it until the group starts to break up, then back it down again.

Another place to look would be 90-100 grains of 2f and a 245 grain Aero Tip Powerbelt. You might also try the 295 grain powerbelts. They will be a slip fit and load real easy. Accuracy should be real good. I shoot the 245 grain out of my CVA Staghorn with 100 grains of Goex 2f. This also is a BPI product. I have a RED DOT on my rifle and can do some impressive shooting with that load to say the least...

Hope this helps and keep us posted on the LT. Nice balance to it. My friend got the Pursuit Pro and he is shooting 100 grains of Pyrodex and a 240 grain XTP and does a real good job with it....

Cayugad..
Thanx Cayugad, Was thinking around 80-90 grains. Kinda partial to Perceision Deadcenters though, but do have a pretty good supply of Powerbelts. Will let you know how it shoots.

I have a Pursuit LT .50. I bought one of the first ones available and the trigger was an absolute nightmare. I finally did my own trigger job as I bought the rifle for my Brother-in-law to get him to go elk hunting with me. We did not have a lot of time to develop loads but trying to keep it simple for him (new muzzleloader guy). I tried one 50gr. Pyrodex pellet and one 30gr. pellet and the 295gr. Powerbelt aerotip. We got some 100 yard groups less than 2 inches and decided that was good enough. Unfortunately he did not get his elk. I got mine but with the Omega. I also tried some American Pioneer powder which shot well in the Pursuit but he didn't want to deal with the loose powder. We only tried 295gr and 300gr. bullets as for elk that is my minimum weight. The Hornady SST bullets shot well also but were a lot harder to load than the Powerbelts so for him we settled on the Powerbelts.

I took 2 does in Kansas (no scopes allowed) with my Pursuit LT ( excellent trigger) using 2 777 pellets and 348 Powerbelt (20 yard shot) and 3 777 and 348 Powerbelt, 100 yard shot. Put a scope on it for the upcoming Oklahoma season. Going to try my Omega, my Pursuit and my Encore, see which is doing the best...........

I'm not so sure I would shoot three 777 pellets with a 348gr. Powerbelt in my Pursuit LT. I am a little skittish about the BPI barrel and not sure the aluminum action will take that kind of pounding on a regular basis. I would expect the recoil was fairly stiff on that light rifle. Apparently it took it at least once.

I only use it to deer hunt Kansas.........only shoot it 2 or 3 times a year....use my Omega or Encore most of the time...anyone have proof of a BP rifle blowing up......?

If you are interested; read Randy Wakeman's article on ModernMuzzleloaders.com under "Dangerous Muzzleloaders". I do not know how much is fact or fiction but you can read for yourself and make your own decision. I would have included the link but I don't know how to do that yet.
