omega loading questions

I'm confused about a few things and there is no mention in my manual about them. I loaded and fired two shots in my new omega yesterday. My neighbor was showing me how to do everything but he has a NEF muzzleloader so things some things were different. Am I supposed to put something on the end of the rod that makes contact with the bullet or do you use it like it is? The rod seems too short. When the bullet was seated all the way I only had about an inch sticking from the barrel. It also seems like there needs to be something on the other end, it digs into your hand pretty good. If there is something else that goes on either end I would have to unscrew them before putting the rod back in the holder. This doesn't seem right to me either.

The second problem I had was when I fired the two shots the rod popped forward enough that it slid out and fell onto the ground when I pointed the gun down. I'm positive it was snapped in fully both times. How do I stop that?

The ramrod is made short... You can add a T-handle to the end to increase the length and give you added pulling power. They just screw into the back end of the ramrod. They also make a fold up T that screws into the end of the ramrod for hunting with.

On the breech end of the ramrod you will need the correct loading jag depending on the bullet you are shooting. There are Shockwave loading jag, XTP loading jags, Barnes loading jag, cleaning jag, plain old roundball loading jags... you need to look them over and decide which one best fits your needs. I like to have a couple of cleaning jags around, a couple of the shockwave jags, and a couple of the plain old roundball jags. I use a range rod. So that gets a jag and a T-handle. I also use a T hand short starter so that gets a jag for loading. Plus I have one ramrod that is for only swabbing the bore and that gets a cleaning jag. The only time I use the one that is in the rifle is when I am hunting or practicing loading for hunting to make sure the ramrod will do the job. Get a range ramrod that is a lot longer then the barrel. It makes it easier to clean the barrel afterward with it.

As for the ramrod jumping out, they all move just from the power of the rifle. I wedged mine a little in my Black Diamond XR. I do not know what the set up is in the Omega.

I had found the same problems with the rod. I purchased the "Thompson Center Power Handle Plus" from Cabelas and it solved the sore hand problem and it wedges in there pretty good to solve the rod popping forward on every shot.

I made some 1/4" wide rubber bands out of an old bicycle inner tube - and put them around the barrel/ramrod just ahead of the little rod supports that are attached to the bottom of the barrel. Keeps the rod in place and prevents it from rattling. When its time to use the rod, slide the rubber bands down onto the rod supports so it doesn't prevent the rod from sliding out. Not too fancy, but it works.

that is a T handle short starter. You can see how it attached to the ramrod to make it longer and to give you more pulling power. Also it will seat projectiels for you with the different ends on it...

I was at Bass Pro Shops the other night and I didn't see anything like that. I went to Gander Mountain yesterday but they were closed by the time I got there. I guess I'll try Bass Pro again and look a little closer. I tried one of my neighbors powerbelts and that thing went down the barrel real nice. I also tried a sabot that came with it and I thought the rod was going to punch a hole thru my hand.

I've been waiting since Friday night for a guy to deliver a dumptruck load of dirt so I can start shooting. He said he would do it by Sunday, so far he hasn't come. I'm starting to get irritated.............

That's what goes on the other end of the ramrod. It is a super jag. It adds over three inches to your ramrod length. It really comes in handy when you want to clean the rifle, as it gives you that little extra length. You can also get jags to fit the heads of the Shockwaves and XTP's. In fact CVA sold a kit that had a short starter and about 10 different heads to load about any kind of bullet you could come across. I have one of them floating around the house also somewhere... You might want to pick up some of the different loading jags. They do less damage to the bullet head which intern makes them fly better..

RML-

I too recently purchased the T/C Omega. Mine came with the super jag Cayugad showed. You definitely need the super jag because of the added length. You also definitely need a T handle to save yur palms. I found one in Dick's Sporting Goods that will act as a short starter and palm saver. Being new to the sport thats about all I can add. Below is a list of things included the bag that came in the box with my Omega.

1- Owners manual
2- Super Jag
3- Grease
4- Five T/C Shockwave 250 GR Spire Point bullets with sabots
5- Breech Plug wrench set
6- 209 priming and removal tool
7-I can't remember if the breech plug was installed or not

I hope this helps. Once you get these things settled, I am sure you'll enjoy it.

I have the supejag but I thought it was for cleaning. So I need to screw that in to the ramrod to load and then unscrew it before I put the ramrod but into the rifle? While in the field that seems like a pain in the butt. I never noticed anyone doing that on tv shows when they reload.

The easy way to do all of this is get a SOLID range ramrod and use that for your loading and swabbing and leave the rifle ramrod alone. I actually use two ramrods on the range. One for loading the projectiles and one for swabbing the rifle. You can seat a bullet in the field if you have to with the ramrod in the rifle. The whole point is you are only supposed to get one shot anyway...:D

They also make smaller jag heads that will screw into the outside part of the ramrod and you can carry the jag head right there for loading in the field. You just will not have the T handle is all.

The one that came with the rifle probably is for cleaning and standard loading. The other jags have different shapes for the kind of bullet you load.

that is a super jag. They are not large, but will load the shock waves and XTP's also with the lower edge being serrated, you can swab a bore with it as well if you have to.
