Shotgun LOad

I have a Beretta black powder O/U shotgun built by Beretta in 1980. What load should i use in it with FF.
Thank you
Richard

Beretta made a black powder shotgun? Cool. Post a picture of it if you could. I would really like to see it. Is this a muzzleloader or is it just a black powder cartridge type gun? If it is a muzzleloader I would normally say load it like any other 12 gauge black powder shot gun but being an over and under I am not sure that would be safe to do so I will not comment on that. Perhaps you might want to contact Beretta for load information. Good luck with your shotgun.

my nephew called beretta today about it, they said to measure 700+ GRAINS of 7 1/2 shot. measure volume. then load what ever size shot at that volume with an equal amount of ffg.
it is a muzzle loader, built in 1980, says 1860 to 1960 on the barell.
wanted to confirm what they were saying.

700 grains I would doubt. 70 grains I would believe. I load 80 grains of FFg and 100 grains of powder in my .62 caliber smoothbore. It seems to get the job done just fine. Many people shoot even amounts of powder and shot, but you will have to experiment with patterns to find what works best for you.

700 grains of lead is about 45 grams or 1.6 ounces. That's a fairly heavy load.

RE: Shotgun LOad

sorry... misread the post which is nothing unusual for me...

POWDER MEASURE SETTINGS TO THROW OUNCES OF BIRD SHOT:
50 grain setting = 3/4 ounce of shot
60 grain setting = 7/8 ounce of shot
70 grain setting = 1 once of shot
80 grain setting = 1 1/8 ounce of shot
90 grain setting = 1 1/4 ounce of shot
100 grain setting = 1 3/8 ounce of shot
110 grain setting = 1 1/2 ounce of shot
120 grain setting = 1 5/8 ounce of shot

these are the guides I use when I load my shotgun. Whether they will help you I have no idea....

700 grains of SHOT!!, NOT 700 grains of POWDER!! And use an equal volume (NOT WEGHT!!) of FFg (or equiv.)powder. Even so, to me that seems like a real heavy load, as that 700 grains =1.6 OZ. of shot.[/b] 1.25 OZ (545 grains) of shot would be a little less likely to disjointyour shoulder!

ML shotguns should be loaded with an equal volume of powder and shot, whatever shot charge you select, with a card wad on top of the powder, a half-inch thick felt cushion wad on top of that, then the shot, and anothercard wad to hold the whole loadin.....

Good luck!!
