Roskoe

That was elk-hunting outside of Colorado with those sabot/bullets... right?

Are they still illegal there this year?

You can use sabot/pellet loads in Colorado during any of the rifle seasons, but not during the regular muzzleloading season (which is on now). We also have a little family ranch in northern New Mexico where I have hunted quite a bit and the sabots are legal there.

From what I have gathered from several meeting I have attended on the subject, the Colorado Wildlife Comission has no plans to open the muzzleloading seasons up to sabots, pellets, or scopes anytime in the future. It is mainly an issue of them giving the blackpowder hunters a season that coincides with the peak of the elk rut. The elk are quite a bit more vulnerable then, and they don't want the weapon technologyto be anything approaching the reach of a CF rifle. I'm OK with that . . . . those big lead slugsare very effective- just don't have the 200 yards plus potential of a good sabot load.
