Range Days get better

I really outdid myself yesterday. I started out with an inline trying some different loads at 100 yards and the rifle behaved real well. The heavier bullet I was experimenting witihjust needed to come up about an inch compared to the light one.. I wanted to see how the new Sightron Scope would act with them.

The for fun I got the Thompson Center Renegade out. This rifle has a .58 caliber Green Mountain Barrel with a 1:70 twist. The old iron sights are not the most refined and I have thought of putting fiber optic on it, until today that is.. I was using Dynamite Noble 1075 caps.

I was shooting 110 grains of Goex 2f and a moosemilk patched Hornady roundball off the bench. I actually had to put a bigger size bull out at that distance because I had a hard time focusing on that little one inch bull. My first shot was a dead center bull and the next three were right in the main area. I ended up with just a little over a 2.3/4 inch group because of one that snuck out on me. I really think if that front sight was more fine, I could get a better placement for the bull with it. Yet, after shooting like that I would take a 100 yard shot on a standing broadside deer in a heart beat out of my blind which has a rest in it also....

Sometimes I have good days on the range and other days I walk off with poor results and a cut between the eye brows...[:o] eye relief on scopes is important...

Triple Se7en.. did you ever get a scope on your .58 caliber roundball rifle? If you did, how well does it shoot?

Exellent shooting!! The bull problem is why I posted on the other thread about targets that using the 50' pistol tagets was a good alternative. They give you a great target for the range if you already have your gun shooting close.

I have the 2-7X32 Bushnell Banner on the 58 Renegade with a 90 degree off-set mount to avoid hitting the hammer.I need a scope on all my rifles nowadays -- otherwise my limit would be 75 yards with open sights. I'm roundball deadly with it out to 125 yards using 75 gr. 777 FFF. I use an.015 cotton patch with D & L Permatex Hand Cleaner for patch lube.

While not exactly a cut, I do get pieces of 11 capin the fingers of my left hand quite often. My son even got one in the cheek one day. I make it a point for myself as well as the kids to wear safety glasses when shooting, especiallythe sidelocks, just for that reason.

Then that is pushing a respectable load at a good distance. I was wondering how far that thing would actually shoot accurate...I never tried hand cleaner as a patch lube. I have a jar of Go-Jo around here. Might be nice, lube your patches and keep your fingers clean at the same time...

-- I know all about those flying pieces of cap. Some caps are worse then others. The Dynamite Noble do not seem so bad for me. Granted they fly to pieces but they stay on the nipple and it actually makes them easier to remove...

Just the Permatex stuff works! It's soft & creamy with no grit. It's a weaker-version of your typical automotive hand cleaner that contains alot of non-harming stuff like lanolin.... an uncommon ingredient with tough-working stuff like Go-Jo.

It's the best stuff I ever used with roundballs. Keeps the bore clean also. I think it was poster Quigley who brought this stuff to my attention.

If you cannot find it by you, PM me & I'll ship you a can. One small, inexpensivecan will last beyond a thousand shots.
