Your rifle will be the true judge as to whether it likes the Goex 3f. I shoot it out of two of my .54 calibers but then in a couple of the others, they like Goex 2f. I have shot 3f in my .62 caliber. It fowls less and is a little faster burning. I personally like the powder. In inlines it works great also.

I use 3f in all my 54 cal. t/c m/l ranging from 85 grains to 100 grains without any problems.
I made the best move the other day and ordered 5 lbs from graf@sons Goex 3f ,I will be set now for about 2 years of shooting

IMO, Goex is the bestprice/performanceblackpowder on the market...I use 3F in .45/.50/.54, with my .54cal hunting load being 90grns3f...fast, clean, and accurate...

3FG granulation is my preference from 45-58 caliber.

Just remember to reduce any 2FG loading data by about 15% when switching to 3FG.

Goex 3FG should work fine. Also Swiss 3FG which I prefer over Goex.

;)

FFF is becoming my go to powder in many guns. From pistols to modern inlines the stuff shoots great. I can entertain kids all day on the cheap using 40-50g of the stuff behind a round ball in my old CVA or shoot the better part of a bull out at 75yds with a full bore 80g load behind a sabot in my Scout. I am very happy with FFF results not only with Goex but with T7 as well.

Now where the heck is that BM3 I hear so much about?

Used to use 3F Elephant allot in my 50 caliber side locks along with 2F in my others, and used 2F in my 69 caliber Great American Sporting Rifle and that was like using 3F in the smaller calibers, since the prefered was Fg in that.

No. You can use FFFg in a .54 Hawken. Hawkens have stout barrels, and generally will handle pretty heavy charges. FFFg does give higher peak pressures in big bores than FFg does when velocities are equal. But not enough higher to be dangerous or anything like that. If you reduce your FFFg charges to be about 10% lighter than what you use when shooting FFg, the MV will be similar......
