50 cal. or 45acp

i have noticed that 45acp and 50 cal. are the same diameter .451 to .452 isit possible to
use the 45acp projectile to a modern inline muzzleloader. And i think 45acp projectiles are
a lot cheaper, the xtp'sit will cost$7.95 per 50pcs plus sabots for $5.95 for 50pcs also!

If the diameter of the bulletmatches the sabot I see no reason why you could not shoot them. Whether they make a good hunting load I could not tell you. I shoot a lot of bulk bullets out of different sabots. My favorite for most applications is still the 240 & 300 grain XTP's. That way I am practicing with what I would hunt with.

I have a reduced recoil load for my wife to use in my 50 cal CVA hunterbolt, it uses two 30 grain pyrodex pellets and a .451" dia sabot from hornady with a winchester 230 grain notched jacketed hollow point bullet its the same bullet I use in my 45 acp hunting loads for my 1911. from the accuracy aspect its not a real tack driver load it shoots inch groups at 50 yards and 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards, but plenty good to take a deer. but then in your rifle it may shoot better. good luck

I guess what you're asking is "Can I use jacketed .45 ACPbullets in a sabot with a .451" cup diameter in a .50 cal. inline rifle?"

If this is your question, the answer is "yes, that's what you are supposed to use in 'em!".

ah you must be young or fairly new too muzzleloading? 15-20 years ago when Sabots began taking over in muzzleloading, the only bullets available WERE pistol bullets. Xbullets, SSTs, Powerbelts etc... none of those were around back then. The XTPs are still used by ALOT of hunters today. They perform well when not driven over 2k fps.

The only thing you have to be careful of is remembering that you will possibly be driving them much faster with your ML than they were designed to work. A hollowpoint designed to open at 45ACP and LC velocities will more than likely overexpand and not penetrate well when fired into game at ML velocities. For practice and plinkin, most any of them would be fine. Just stick with quality ones like XTPs, CorBons etc when actually using them to take game with.

Good luck,
RA
