Just my personal belief, but for an all around gun I would do the 50 - a lot more versitility with that caliber. Check your local options a lot of states will not allow 45 for big game hunting. |

ORIGINAL: asianhunter what caliber should i buy 45 or 50? which one is better long range shooting and accuracy, power factor, better knock down power...thanks One last point that I can not say is true or false, but we used to read a lot of posts of people having a hard time finding a good shooting load for the .45 caliber. I am sure with the new projectiles and rifle designs, this is all changed now... Just a thought. |

well it depends on your game you will be hunting, personally i own 2 .45 caliber bp rifles and iam very satisfied. the only problem is when u shot a 45 in sabot its typically a .40 or .357 c aliber bullet due to the plastic jacket they sit in. but a powerbelt bullet has a plastic jacket on its back side which allows it to be 1 thousandth of a inch larger than the the sabots. which makes for a better sealed chamber and better shot to shot consistency and preasure. The powerbelt bullets give you a larger bullet than the plastic jackets. add that with a 100 grn powerdex load and 209 primer and buddy you cant go wrong. plenty of knockdown for whitetail and blackbear. glad i can be of help.
