RE: Weighing powder charges???
Pre-weighing works well for me. Next you'll need the little capped vials to carry around those pre-weighed charges. A pretty large number of folks are doing this now. Many contend there is little to gain and that may be so, but doncha just love to tinker?
It's a popular enough notion that MTM picked up on it... http://www.mtmcase-gard.com/products/camping/ml1.html |
RE: Weighing powder charges???
I found that the plastic tubes that the Pyro pellets are sold in serve well for pre-measured charges. Also the tubes Precision Rifles packages their bullets in work good too. Plus there is still the speed loaders sold by 1/2 a dozen companies that can be used too. Some use old 35mm film plastic containers too, but they're a lot messier since they are so wide.

RE: Weighing powder charges???
I measure mine by volume most of the time. The ones in vials are weighed. Only reason for the vials is when not wanting to drag a powder horn along during hunting season. No noticible difference for me other than that. As for static in a hopper, I've dumped countless charges through one that way for my cartridges without incident. Most even come in plastic cans these days...so who's to say.

RE: Weighing powder charges???
ORIGINAL: .308hunter what I was thinking of doing is takinga chargethat I made by volume, measure it (weight), record the weight, and then from there on I could just make up my charges by weighing out the same weight of powder. |
RE: Weighing powder charges???
Thanks you guys, I think I may have to try it just to see how it works. Sometimes you just have to touch the stove to see if its hot or not. Anything to get me into the basement and tinker around is better than staying upstairs and having my Mom tell me to clean my room.
