My Guess for the information given will be....

Since it is at Wal Mart and you state a sidelock. If your Wal Mart is like mine, and they carry CVA products, I will guess it is a CVA Bobcat .50 caliber. It has a 1:48 twist, 26 inch barrel and usually a black composite stock. They are good roundball shooters. They weigh around five and a half pounds so you have to watch how much powder you load in them or the recoil is uncomfortable. You can take the bite out of the recoil by adding a little weight in the hollow sock. It is not a real hard thing to do. They have a max powder rate of about 100 grains of FFg and are not a bad rifle for the money.

If you go to look at one see if it is not a Bobcat. Before you buy it be sure and take it out of the box and check the hammer. It should fall free and fast without sticking and strike the nipple square. Other then that they make a great starter rifle or a childs rifles too.....

If it is indeed a Bobcat you won't be worried about being P(eriod) C(orrect) so you can go ahead and stick an effective recoil pad on it. I found that charges in excess of 80 grains were just to much without one.
