A Cheap & Easy Tripod Shooting Rest
Need something to rest your gun on for shooting from a seated, kneeling, or standing position?
A neat tripod rest can be made from second hand camera tripods which are often available in thrift stores for just a few bucks. They have a 1/4-20 turn bolt for mounting the camera. All you need is one of those brackets used on chain link fences, a 1/4-20 hex nut, some solder, foam rubber, and duct tape. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used this one to take a nice little eight-pointer at 83 yards with my peep sighted .54 caliber Lyman Great Plains while sitting behind a brush pile. I would not have attempted the shot without a rest. ![]() |
That's really cool. I saw a "used" one at a thrift store but what they were asking for it, for a few dollars more I could have purchased a brand new store bought shooting stick. But that is a good idea.

Nice little tripod there... I know what I'm going to do if I see one of these around for a couple of bucks.
