Post Your Target - 3 Shots / 50 Yards / Offhand
#13
I'll give this a whirl this evening. I'm heading out to visit an elderly man out in the country so I don't have much time, but I packed my muzzleloader and 3 bullets this morning, so I'll take the shots and see where they land.
I packed only 3 to prevent me from shooting all evening, but I should have packed 4...one to take a rested shot so I know where POI is. I'll use last year's hunting load, so I should be pretty close to zeroed. I haven't adjusted the crosshairs on my scope from last season, but I did remove it from the rings and slide it forward about a half inch, so I am sure it's not dead on. If I don't hit the 3" circle, hopefully we can judge the shooting my the group.

OK...the bullet size did make the circle look a bit bigger.
I feel like this contest should be played with open sites, but then again, I don't have a muzzleloader with open sites, so I would disqualify myself.
Also, I think offhand needs to be defined. Not because the word offhand doesn't define itself (it does), but because some people think you are shooting offhand if you don't use an aid like a bench or shooting sticks. I remember a post last year where a guy said he killed a deer at 150 yards prone, offhand. Huh??? All he was trying to say was that he did it prone without shooting sticks, etc. The definition of offhand is shooting in a standing position with no aid from an external object.
Are slings allowed? I forgot mine today, but for general info.

Does it count as offhand if you use the gun's sling as a bracing aid? Not a shooting sling, mind you, just a regular sling for carrying the rifle. When I shoot offhand I have a system where I slide my arm through the loop and twist it to aid with stability. Cheating or not???

Well, my range is closed for the year due to hunting season beginning last Saturday but a friend has a range at his house and after dinner today we went out to throw a few down range.
I told him about the contest so we dueled it out. We both shot 2 targets each. He beat me on both but he was shooting a scoped inline so I claimed he cheated
