Sound wisdom there. I don't think the above statement can either be argued or improved on.

There are no factory loads or any reloads that are considered elk loads or didn't you read this thread!!! Just because you kill deer with you .243 and they fall over doesn't mean it will happen like that with an elk that can weigh 500# to 800#+. Have you even hunted elk to see how big they are? The best you can do is look for a good bonded bullet, but if you have a bigger rifle please use it and leave the .243 for antelope and deer!

Premium bullets like Nosler Partitions & Barnes TTSX are available from the factory from a couple of different manufactures.

I have no doubt a .243 will kill a deer but I wouldn't consider it even marginal for elk.I loaded 90 accubonds in my son's .243 in front of 42.5 gr of H4350.We killed 4 deer with that load last year and only got a complete passthrough one time. The deer all died but there's a huge difference between a 100lb whitetail and a 800lb elk with heavy bones.

Is anyone here familar with the .243 Win and its use to hunt elk with. With the recent development in premium bullets now available, isn't it time that we rethink this excellent little cartridge?
If I remember correctly, the late Bob Milek used the lowly .25-06 for his elk hunting.

Much like a .25 Auto is the ideal personal defense handgun.
In skilled hands it will get the job done.
Reality check in order here.

I wasn't a reloader when I hunted elk with a .243, either. 100gr CoreLokts in the green-and-yellow box. I use 180gr, 250gr, and sometimes even 300gr bullets on elk today because I can. But if all I had were a .243 again, you're darn right I'd be elk hunting with it.
