Like it or not, man has now taken the place as the top predator within the world’s food chain, it’s now man’s responsibility to also step in to manage ALL wildlife populations to ensure healthy ecosystems for our future. “Natural Biological Management” that was taught in colleges throughout the US in the 70’s has since been proven to be a very ineffective way to manage the ebb and tide of all wildlife populations. Only when radical, single focused groups are allowed to influence the management of a single species, is the system thrown off balance. The introduction of the grey wolf in the Idaho, Montana and Wyoming tri-state area is a grand example of how to mess up the balance of nature, not help it

Camper wakes up as wolf attacks

by The Associated Press

VICTORIA, B.C. - A 23-year-old man is recovering in Victoria General
Hospital after an extremely rare wolf attack on a human.
Scott Langevin, 23, required 50 stitches to close a wound on his head. A
third of his scalp was shaved to allow for a crisscross of gashes to be
treated.

The wolf also bit Langevin on his left forefinger. The University of
Victoria student said he was asleep early Sunday morning outside his tent
on Vargas Island near Tofino when he was awakened by something tugging at
the foot of his sleeping bag.

He told a local television station he awoke to find a dark-colored wolf.

"I yelled to try to spook it off, and I kicked at it," Langevin said.

"It backed up a bit, but then it just lunged on top of me, and it started
biting away through my sleeping bag."

Langevin said he rolled over in an attempt to get the campfire between him
and the wolf, but the animal jumped on his back and began biting his head.

He said he yelled to attract the attention of the rest of his camping
buddies, members of a kayaking excursion.

Boaters Dave Leblanc and Doug Leys responded to the call about 1:30 a.m.
Sunday.

Langevin was losing blood quickly but was conscious when he was loaded
aboard the boat. He was eventually airlifted to Victoria.

Wolf attacks on humans are extremely rare, said Bill Woodhouse, a
recreation officer with British Columbia Parks.

"There has never been a wolf attack in a park," Woodhouse said. "Wolves
normally stay away from man."

Conservation officers tracked and killed two wolves in the area yesterday.

Attacks by healty wolves are extremely rare in North America, MUCH rarer than other animals like bears, moose, hogs, buffalo, alligators, cougars, and even elk , though you never heard anyone calling to get rid them.

If you read this you will understand why I post these post I wont tell anybody what to think but if we dont get the wolf delisted before it goes to far I think we are going to have trouble with an animal that dont fear man. Its already started with the canada goose we have almost turned them dam pets because of there lack of fear off humans and if this keeps going the wolf will not fear us either.
================================================== ======

India reported more than 100 deaths attributable to wolves in one year during the eighties. (Associated Press, 1985) This author recalls a news report in 1990 in which Iran reported deaths from attacks by wolves.

Rahsid Jamsheed, a U.S. trained biologist, was the game director for Iran. He wrote a book entitled, "Big Game Animals of Iran (Persia)" In it he made several references to wolf attacks on humans. Jamsheed says that for a millennia people have reported wolves attacking and killing humans. In winter, when starving wolves grow bold, they have been known to enter towns and kill people in daylight on the street. Apparently in Iran, there are many cases of wolves running off with small children. There is also a story of a mounted and armed policeman (gendarme) being followed by 3 wolves. In time he had to get off his horse to attend natures call, leaving his rifle in the scabbard. A later reconstruction of the scene of the gnawed bones and wolf tracks indicated that the horse had bolted and left the man defenseless, whereupon he was killed and eaten.

A Russian linguist, Will Graves, provided our organization with reports of wolves killing Russian people in many areas of that country. reports indicate some of the wolves were diseased while other appeared healthy. (Reports on file and available upon request)

Reports have also come from rural China. The official Zinhua News Agency reported that a peasant woman, Wu Jing, snatched her two daughters from the jaws of a wolf and wrestled with the animal until rescuers arrived. Wu slashed at the wolf with a sickle and it dropped one daughter but grabbed her sister. It was then Wu wrestled with the animal until herdsmen came and drove the beast away. This incident occurred near Shenyang City, about 380 miles northeast of Beijing. (Chronicles Features, 1992)

The question arises, "Why so many attacks in Asia and so few in North America?"

Two factors much be considered:

1. The philosophy of Conservation - Our forefathers always believed that they had the right and obligation to protect their livelihoods. Considerable distance was necessary between man and wolf for the wolf to survive.

2. Inexpensive, efficient weapons gave man the upper hand in the protection of his livelihood and for the taking of wolves.

Milton P. Skinner in his book The Yellowstone Nature Book (published in 1924) wrote, "Most of the stories we hear of the ferocity of these animals ... come from Europe. There, they are dangerous because they do not fear man, since they seldom hunted except by the lords of the manor. In America, the wolves are the same kind, but they have found to their bitter cost that practically every man and boy carries a rifle..."

Skinner was correct. The areas of Asia where wolf attacks occur on humans are the same areas where the people have no firearms or other effective means of predator control.
