caribou hunting

Greetings, I am new to this forum and posting this message in an attempt to meet some hunters that are planning on a 2005 un-guided Ontario caribou hunt. I have several hunting buddies here in Pa and Colorado that I hunt annually with for Deer, Bear, and Elk, however, I have been unable to convince any of them to take the time off and head up north for a caribou hunt later this year. I would be interested in joining a group looking for another dedicated hunter to share the experience, cost and effort. I am a very experienced outdoorsmen having hunted for many years in all kinds of weather including subzero trips from a remote pack tent. I live in Central Pa just south of Lancaster and I am close to major highways traveling north. If you are looking to fill a vacancy and want to make a new hunting Bud, send me an email, and we'll talk about it.

You're going about this the right way and you might find a taker on here--it may take awhile though. I'd like to go sometime in the future myself--not next year though. No matter what, you can find a lot of good advice from time to time around these parts. You might also post this in other forums on this website to get maximum exposure. good luck

hate to burst your bubble, but there is no season for caribou in Ontario. You best consider Quebec or perhaps Newfoundland. FYI

Newfoundland requires a guide for all non resident hunters.

Hi there wmagagna. Are you looking to go for a fall (Aug/Sept) or a winter (Nov/Feb) hunt? The winter one is easier to do unguided. And someone else already put the link up for the other thread that pretty much covers all of the stuff you might ever need to know.

If you are meat hunting late nov will be great, but by then almost all the bulls will have shed their antlers, I went ist week of nov to Quebec and saw thousands of caribou but had to search to find a decent rack, then when we went to lift up his head his antler fell off.

Yes, I have heard this is the case. And thank you for an honest response. Good to know what to expect. What outfitter did you go with and what area were you in?
