RE: Hunting from a mountain bike??
I have a cheap mountain bike I use for hunting and made a small bracket that goes on the seat post to hold my deer cart and it works well.Put your gear on it and if you get a deer you put him on it.I'm afraid to take my Cannondale in the woods too much$$$$$$$$.

I have used mountain bikes in Wyoming and let me tell you they rock. You can actually use them to pack out a quarter or two by tying the leg to the handle bar and the ham to the seat stay. I also have towed the elk cart behind me which is a real slick way to carry a buddy or extra gear for an extended stay. Ride safe though and definitely get a good head lamp. Petzl halogen hands down.

I hunt from a bike. I have a high end full suspension bike with a BOB trailer. The trailer is perfect. You can take it fast through single track and it follows right in your tread marks. You can load it up to 80 lbs. This set up helps me cary enough gear to get in deep, away from alot of the foot traffic.

RE: Hunting from a mountain bike??
I have packed a couple elk and one deer out with my mountain bike. I just shoot an elk last monday and my daughter and I took it out in one trip, it was about five miles back on a closed road (closed to motorized vehicles) It was all down hill on the way out.
Here's some pictures, yes it looks ridiculous but it works!
