Base Camp For 2004 Elk Hunt

Here is our "base camp" for Elk Season 2004, a little different location from last year though still in our favorite locale....

16X52 Wall tent with propane heat in the sleeping area, wood stove in the dining hall.

Of course the horses need a home too, some rated their own corral....

Our Belgians that we use primarily for packing go on the "highline" --- these are "cold blooded" horses that don't get excited easily and we have never had one get "hung up" even though we tie them long enough to eat their hay and grain off of the ground.

Overall, this is our "base of operations", our retreat, our recharging station, and our butcher shop.....
We do use a "spike camp"; however, that is another story....

Wish we could stop by for coffee to your camp!!!
I miss it up there already!!

Just curious........
how would you guys handle camp setup if there was snow on the ground when you arrived? Just trying to anticipate future scenarios.

Whitetail season opens tomorrow down here, so will sate my appetite somewhat.

We take along a scoop shovel and two snow shovels and a square point shovel. Mark the size of the tent in the snow and then shovel/scrape and pitch to the side. Have set up in snow and in mud. One more reasons to have tarp floors to keep the wet down below and the dry up above. Note: we take along a half dozen carpet samples to create a "yellow brick road" from the door of the wall tent out to where there is enough grass to reduce mud tracking.
