i need some help on with slugs to use in my smooth barrel 12 gauge
 

im shooting a 12 gauge mossberg mavrick 28'' witch slugs should work best its a smooth barrel ?? and what choke tube should i use ???

rifled slugs or "foster" style (same thing)

use IC or skeet chokes.....or buy a rifled choke tube and use sabots

David, I've used Brenneke slugs in a smooth bore and they work great. There are several different types, so be sure you get the ones for a smooth bore. Good luck.

I have also used the brenneke slugs. They are the best I have found for a smooth bore shotgun. I can vouch for how they work on whitetails. Either 2 3/4 or 3" will work just fine.

I too use Brenneke slugs and love 'em. The 2 3/4 Heavy Short Field Magnum really packs a whollop. If that's not enough the also make one for dangerous game pushing a 600 grain slug with just over 3000 lbs of energy. Remington also make one over 500 grains. Both of these are for rifled barrels or choke tubes though. I haven't tried either of them yet so I can't really comment on them. Go to your local gun store and get a box of each one they have and try them all. That's the only way to really know.

Oh yeah, the more open the choke the better. Cylinder, Skeet or Improved Cylinder will all work well.

I also use Brenneke brand slugs,.. I have a Remington 870 with a iron sight slug barrel.
I swap out the shot barrel for deer season.

i have the 870 as well smooth barrel with rifed choke and rifled slugs is this a wrong combo

If it works it's definately not wrong. If you're gettin' good accuracy then don't worry about what's right or wrong. If you're using a rifled choke tube you might want to TRY sabot slugs or Remington's Buckhammer.
