Anyone using Federal Premium HE TBBC in .338 Win?
Purchased a Ruger M77 MII Sporter chambered in .338 win mag last year. I have been shooting the Federal Premium HE TBBC in 225g. Shot my Moose with this round and it did a great job...deep penetration full expansion when it smacked the opposite shoulder after passing through lungs. Will be using this round durring the Elk season starting in 3 days and wondering if anyone has used these on Elk? Good traits bad traits of this particular bullet would be appreciated.
Also has anyone polished their own trigger on the Ruger rifles? Long hard pull (on mine at least) I think I received the "you can't sue us with this trigger" trigger! |

Federal HE TBBC 225 gr. bullets will do a fine job on elk. Good luck.

Three days to go to the elk hunt? You are committed to what you've got. Don't change now. Given your account of the moose I can't imagine but what they will be just fine.
BTW, I've ran straight into the same thing with the trigger on the last Ruger rifle I owned. Amazing that a maker of such fine rifles would use such crappy triggers. On the other hand, most stock rifles need some work of some sort (and with Ruger it's usually the trigger) and even trigger replacement is not that prohibitive. At least when your fingers get cold and numb you don't have to worry about "touching off" a premature shot. :D EKM |

Thanks for your thoughts!.... I am pretty confident the TBBC rounds will tip my Elk over with a well placed shot...was just fishing to find out more first hand accounts using this ammo.
ECM.... deffinitely will be no premature shots going off with this Ruger trigger!! Will be getting that reworked pretty soon though. Overall pretty happy with the rifle. The Laminated stock sucks up most of the recoil. Happy hunting....2 days until I chase some Elk around!:D |

Sounds like you found a good bullet to stick with for all big game!! I may have to give them a try in my .338.
