160 Accubond for Elk?
 

I was planning on using the 160 Accubond for elk and moose this year out of my 7mm rem mag. I had done research on this bullet, including some posts prior and felt it would work well on the bigger animals. I have recently read some threads on various sites that have me a bit unnerved on this choice. Accuracy wise I am extremely pleased, just looking for opinions to ease my mellon.

So what you think don't worry and go hunting? or switch?

Skeeter, I've never used the 160 accubonds but I've only heard good things about them. From what I've heard they perform as good as partitions and a 160 partition is a great elk round. If it were me I'd hunt using them and not give it a second thought.

I am giving up 20gr of weight, in order to get more MV and therefore a flatter trajectory. The 140gr Accubond is grouping very well in my Winchester Utimate Shadow in 7mmWSM. I tested the Barnes Triple X and Hornady Interbond and the Accubond performed best in terms of accuracy. If I was willing to limit my shots on elk to inside 300 yds, I would've stayed with the old 30-06. Going beyond 300 yds and out to 450yds, I have to have a premium bullet that can penetrate and be accurate and FAST enough to take much of the guess work out of "hold over". Sure, if I get another elk, it will probably be at 50 yards and all the work will have been for nothing, but better prepared for a long shot then not.

Even if retained weight is roughly the same as the partitions at @ 60%. The accubonds have a higher BC than partitions so for longer shots thay are a better bullet as they would logically retain more velocity and energy. They shoot beautifully in my Sako 7mm rem mag so I will try them on moose this year.
