RE: which gun? 30-06 or .300 magnum
For one gun I would take the 300 mag.It will do anything the 30-06 will do at a longer distance.

RE: which gun? 30-06 or .300 magnum
Go for the 300 win mag. Given the game in that part of the country a little fire power isn't going to hurt. If you are looking to pick up the rifle in Winnipeg, give MacDonalds in Portage a call. They have good pricing and the people there actually know what they are talking about!

RE: which gun? 30-06 or .300 magnum
Unless you plan on shooting griz. The .30-06 is ideal. As already stated, the ammo is cheaper. Factory loads go from 125 grain (varmit) to 220 (Moose). If you handload you can shoot 100grain - 250grain.
In my yonger days, I had the mentality, more power is better. Now I know it's not necessary. Anything you can take with a .300, I can take with the .30-06. I won't spend as much doing it, and after practicing for a few hours, my shoulder thanks me for it. Actually, I starting using my .243 for deer hunting. My .30-06 is now my Bear / Moose rifle. In Short - Go with the .30-06! |

RE: which gun? 30-06 or .300 magnum
dont buy a cheapo savage. i have owned more then 30 rifles and i feel the savages are the "less quality" rifle. if your only gonna shoot it a 100 times in the life of the gun then go for it. a winchester, browningor my favorite the weatherby are much better products. the 06 will take down any game on the planet and is a good starter gun. the 300 will take down the same game faster but the recoil can be intimidating for a first time buyer.
