What will you hunt this fall??

It may be a little early for some and others may be looking forward to spring hunts (include those to). But Colorado's big game license deadline is just over a week away and I was curious as to what and where all of you plan to hunt this fall and how you plan to hunt whatever that is?
Also.....what kind of tags are these? Do you have to draw through a lottery? Is it over the counter? ETC.

I myself, hopfully will draw a Bull Elk tag for unit 66 1st season rifle. Thats the big one for me!!! But I also have put in for a Bear tag,Dear tag and will purchase an over-the-counter muzzleloader cow tag. These will all be in Colorado (where I live).I also will be hunting antelope in Wyoming!
If I don't draw the Bull tag then I will muzzleload for bull, otc rifle cow and the others will stand.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

OTC archery elk either sex tag, Draw cow tag - rifle, Draw mulie buck tag rifle (hopefully), Left over PLO doe tag good until Jan 31 of 2005. All in Colorado as well.

How nice it would be to get and fill all four tags. No beef to buy next year!:D

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Archery elk gets goin at the end of august so i'll hit that. If i don't get one then i'll put down the bow and pick up the rifle and hunt them in september. By that time bear and deer will be opened up in certain zones. Bear ends around the middle of october or so. I will go after some geese and grouse also. Then deer opens up on the farmland in november -dedember. Basically from august 25th to decmber 5th i am hunting every week if possible.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I'll be bow hunting whitetails up in the northwoods of Wisconsin through the first week of November. (I know, it's not like mountain hunting)...BUT, I will be in the Bob Marshall Wilderness (MT) for a late season elk/mulie hunt. I fell into this opportunity a few weeks ago, and at the last minute, we got our liscense and outfitter cert out in a fed ex package with a deadline of 3/15 at midnight. I called to follow up and the package was signed at the fish, wildlife and parks office on 3/15 at 10:00 AM, so I think I 'm good to go. The very last part of November, packing in on horses 15 miles. Could have snow up to my arm pits, but could also catch a good movement of animals. Been with this guy before and they run a heck of an outfit....looking forward to it, big time.

Glob306 - I hunted unit 65 last fall in the muzzleloader season, mid Sept. Got a nice 5x5 on the fourth day. No guides and worked that sucker for about 45 minutes before he finally showed. One shot with the front stuffer and he tipped over!!

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Deer in SD and ND. Black Bear and Moose in Sask. We get out tags from the outfitter. Waterfowl in ND.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

After the bear hunt is over, I'll be chasing walleye and grouse on the same trip in Sept, then moose in October and deer in November. All in Ontario.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I will try to draw tags for:

Bull, or Cow Elk.
Pronghorn
Mule Deer
Black Bear
Turkey

If I don't draw for Mule Deer, Black Bear, or Turkey I will purchase over the counter tags for these species.

Good luck on the draws.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

This fall's season will start with squirrels, and deer with a bow in September. In November we're going Caribou hunting in Quebec on one of those cheap winter hunts. December will be spent chasing the elusive whitetail in the rifle season. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get drawn for a Maine Moose tag!
:)Good luck with all your drawings.:)

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Let's see, archery deer starts the beginning of September. By the middle of the month I'll be hunting ducks and geese as well. The last week of September is my annual moose hunt.
After that I'll pick up the bow again for more deer hunting while still harassing ducks and geese.
Mid-October starts the deer muzzleloader season and then rifle season starts early November. After that if we didn't get a moose in early season we usually try a couple days in December.
Should be fun. I can't wait. It's going to be a long summer again.

Aught Six 03-26-2004 07:50 AM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I'm keeping it simple this fall-turkeys in VA and whitetail in MD & VA. I might pick up a bow this summer, so if I can get enough practice in, I might do both gun and bow.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

My big hope is that I draw a moose tag for Minnesota. Everything will take a back seat to that. Unfortunately I only have about a 10% chance of drawing one. I chase deer around in the South Dakota Black Hills every year ( either rifle or bow), and I am waiting to see if I will be successful in drawing a deer/elk tag for Montana. There is also an outside chance that I might be going on a deer hunt in Sask. As far as I'm concerned, fall can't get here quick enough!

ironranger 03-26-2004 08:34 AM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I'll start with spring since that's coming up:
1. Wisconsin turkey hunt April
2. Black Hills turkey hunt end of April
3. Minnesota turkey hunt May 14th
4. Early goose season Minnesota start around Sept 3rd
5. grouse hunting northern MN fall
6. Bowhunting whitetails in Minnesota fall
7. Pheasant hunting Minnesota and Iowa fall
8. Whitetail rifle season Minnesota fall

I put in for Montana mule deer draw and Utah Elk draw. If I don't draw for either I'm off to Colorado bow hunting Elk.

Jorgy 03-26-2004 08:54 AM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Colorado - deer & elk with muzzleloader & doe deer with rifle also antelope with rifle if I draw my tag which i have about a 50/50 chance with my pref points. Add in some pheasant hunting too. I also apply for moose but it's not something that I will probably draw till I'm too old or almost dead

Montana - deer if I draw, which I should, this will be my first Montana hunt

Wisconsin - Rifle deer, I always head back to Cheeseland for deer hunting

Wyoming - Antelope, again, if I draw

Maine - Moose, if I draw, which I have about a one in million chance of doing. Hopefully before I'm 80 y/o I will

BigBore1895 03-26-2004 12:26 PM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Boy I am envyious of some of you guys. What with moose hunts and trips to other states. I'm going to Wyoming but thats an hours drive to where we will hunt... and the whole hunt might cost me $350.
Where do you guys/gals find the time and $ for these hunts? I know that in Colorado you must remit full license fee even if you don't have a chance in #=!! to draw. Not to mention all of the other costs. If I applied for all of the RESIDENT tags that I wanted to just to gain points for and "maybe" draw some day. I would have to gain a tidy sum of cashola only to wait and have it refunded in a few months. The only reason I am doing the Wyoming thing is that I have a friend whose got a "Great Spot"??? But then again braces, soccer and a collage fund for an 11yr old might play part in that???????

Hey HALE87.....I have a friend in Mass. that is trying for the same Moose tag in Maine.Hope you are both succesfull. Although if my friend is not lucky enough to draw he will be out here for Elk season. That's good.....He is a favorite hunting partner!!!

Also....Whiteails&Muskies........Good job on that Bull!! Would LOVE to get one with my side-lock.Have been VERY !@#$!@# CLOSE but no cigar:eek: an opprotunity came up for rifle season in unit 66 with some friends who use horses so I am using my points for that!!!!

Good Luck to all!!!!!!!!!!!! to the guy's/gal's that haven't chimed in please do so...it's a great read. (I think):)

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

OTC archery elk tag
Muzzleloader mule deer tag
Limited bear tag for september
And hopefully this is my year for antelope with six preference points.

That's a full plate inbetween guiding hunters lol. Lord willing I'll get a few days to hunt elk and a few days on that mulie buck. The bear and goat tag will take a back seat. Especially the antelope beings its between archery and rifle seasons. I'll have time to make that hunt.

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I'll start with spring turkey back on the farm in Ks. Will have two tags to fill. Then will plink a few Pdogs here in Colo., to help the summer months go by. Then will be some where in Alaska for moose and wolf on Sept. 1st. My buddy that I'm going with will have a griz tag in Alaska. Then back to Colo. for antelope, if I draw and archery mule deer, late season in Eastern Colo., than in Nov. will be back to the farm for archery whitetail deer and squeeze some upland bird hunting in then too. Then come Dec., will focus on coyotes until the end of Feb.

skeeter 7MM 03-26-2004 10:17 PM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

May - few days of harassing Blackie's with the Bow.
August - Archery Elk/Deer/Bear
Sept - Archery Whitetail/Mule Deer
Middle of Sept. -Rifle Elk/Whitetail Deer (If not successful in archery)
Oct - ML season for Whitetail (Possibly if I get a draw tag Antelope)
Oct - If I get drawn for Moose - Rifle
Nov. - Dec - Whitetail Rifle Season
Possibly may buy a regular Moose Tag for Rifle in November if I don't get drawn for Moose in October or Antelope.

Other than pretty quiet year;)

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

Elk and Mulies for me...in Colorado. I would hunt more stuff, but, the Navy says I can only stay away for so long. Unit 68 is where I have hung my hat since '73.

I would love to put in for a Moose tag or maybe hunt Antelope again or prairie dogs or coyotes or........

stealthycat 03-27-2004 11:34 AM

RE: What will you hunt this fall??

I submitted an application for Colorado statewide muzzleloader tag. If I draw (with 3 PP I should) I'll hunt 3rd week of Sept. If I don't draw by some chance, I'll probably hunt last week of season with my longbow.

I might be hunting Kansas again for whitetails ... still workingo on that archery hunt.

Other than that, hunting here at home with my Dad some, putting in for some state draws and thats about it

Shame on you jjt.

I'm trying for a job out of state and that might have an effect on what I hunt but this is the tentative plan.

Late Sept.early Oct.- Moose in Wy. I've been saving preference points.
Also put in for mulies in the same area of Wy. for the same time period.
Late Oct. Elk in the Gila Wilerness I have a high probability of drawing.
Nov. Putting in for elk in Az. with my Dad. Low chance of drawing. Also bear hunting, over the counter here in N.M. where I live. I hope to hunt whitetails in Missouri too if things work out. Or I could hunt mulies or coues here. mountain lion as I have a tag good for the year so if i see one bang. Could hunt coues or mulies into Dec. and Jan. with my bow in Az. Between hunting and my horses I'm dead broke this year.
