Post-Season Blues

What a kick in the shorts. I can't believe something you wait for, for so long, can be over and done with so soon. I was off today, and didn't know what to do with myself. I hunted elk in september (got zip but had several encounters), antelope in october (got two), deer in november (got a muley buck, whitetail doe), and pheasants in december (got a freezer full). Sounds like a lengthy season, and it certainly was a successful one...but how can it be over already? I'm sure there are some folks out there feeling the same way, or will be shortly. Oh well...I guess now it's flyfishing on the Missouri River and counting the days until spring gobbler season!

Yep, always sucks when hunting season is over. By the way, I notice that you are from Montana and your handle is Moose Drool - That's good beer! Great name too!

You've got no reason to have the post season blues if you hunt and fish there's always something to do. I plan on going for some late season pheasants this year and a couple goose and bobcat hunts. I love to ice fish so that will keep me busy until ice off and thats also when the fly fishing really heats up. But I know what your going through, for me up to about a month and half after my muley and elk hunt is over I'm still ready for more of it.

I am with you, elk hunting one nice bull, deer hunting two does, and mountain lion hunting until March, I am considering trying coyote hunting, see what that does for my hunters blues.

Well moose drool is a very good beer, however, Trout Slayer is still #1 for me. As for the end of the season i've got a late season cow tag till the first so i can stave off that bad feeling a couple more weeks.

When do you guys find time to work????

I'm fortunate in that I have the option to hunt or fish in some shape or form. every day of the year.
At the moment the Trout fishing is "Hot"
King Salmon have just started running in the river. (Nice big 3-4 year old fish, plenty being caught over 20 pounds.)
Sea fishing is good every day of the year.
A spring spiker is on my menu, (Tried last week, but missed, will have another crack next week.) and the Alpine hunting is good too.
Bird shooting has closed, but there are places open for Canada Geese.
Time/$ is the only problem.

Think of it this way when one season is in the books, time to start a new chapter for next season. I have been scouting already, will start shed hunting in early 04 & throw in coyote/fox hunting and some ice fishing and before I know it is april and spring bear(Official start to 2004 hunting year:D) Just enough time to make open water fish, plan and scout more intensively for the fall before you know it is bow in hand/time to chase Wapiti, Wt's and Mulies, then ML season & finally rifle. Repeat the drill Dec. 2004 for 2005 and so on[8D]

No wonder my honey do list never gets shorter[:o]

Best of the seasons and in between season to all[8D]

Everything here ended mid December. Now we have"The Great Canadian Squirrel Hunt" in Jan, a bit of trapping and varmint hunting in Feb/March, spring bear/turkey/goose seaon opens in April to end of June. July we fish. Aug is the start of deer archery, then muzzle season, early waterfowl/goose season. Sept is waterfowl opener along with upland. Oct, Nov, Dec is our different big game seasons. After that, it is time to start all over.;)

Moosedrool, I hunted and I hunted and I hunted hard from Sept. to the end of Nov. and if the season lasted any longer I'd drop, its like an addiction or maybe an obbsession for me and I really take it too serious I been told, but what I'm doing now is my second love in life and thats down hill skiing and then the following day when my muscles need a rest I go Ice fishing for Pike, Rainbows and perch. You just gotta get out and be active or Kabin fever will set in, Good Luck Bobby ;)

P.S. Just one more thing, the bier Moosedrool taste just like it sounds [&o]

Though deer season is over I still have a lot of hunting to do yet. Aside from a trip to NM in two weeks I'll small game hunting right through February. Then, if the weather provides ice on the lakes there's ice fishing.
Of course, in Spring some of us "shoot" par, bogies and sadly double bogies too.

RE: Post-Season Blues

I dont think I got post season blues this year... I was able to plan my mid tour leave from Korea to coincide with California's B zone rifle season. I only got 4 days to hunt, but I have to say they ere among the best 4 days ever. I got to go hunt with my Dad, something I hadn't done in a long time, and spend lots of quality time with my wife and son, without the distractions of TV and life. Although I was unsuccessful in hunting, I have to say it was my most successful hunting trips ever. The memories from that trip carries me through the long cold nights working on tanks here in "the land of morning calm"
