wid meat
Whats the best wild meat you guys have ever tasted. I hear black bear is great but have yet to try it, so I' d have to say moose gets the top vote so far.
|
RE: wid meat
Right now I have a freezer full of elk, deer, moose (given to me by a friend), grouse, and quail. I love it all, but if I had to choose, it' d be elk!:D

RE: wid meat
I have to second the vote for elk!
|
RE: wid meat
Big moose meat fan, here!
|
RE: wid meat
Elk by far, especially spikes. Bear meat is the worst I' ve ever had.elknut1
|
RE: wid meat
1 elk
2 moose 3 mule deer / whitetail / caribou 4 grouse/ cotton tail 5 antelope 6 buffalo 7 bear that pretty much sums up my taste buds you could throw lamb in 2.5 and beef in 4.5 |
RE: wid meat
The best wild game meat I have ever had is Hartabeast with Zebra being a close 2nd. The best semireadily available that I have had is Cariboo. Then probably rabbit and quail.
|
RE: wid meat
#1 moose, #2 elk, #3 antelope, #4 deer
the moose i have shot have been just like beef mmm good |
RE: wid meat
Elk is my favorite, moose is 2nd then everything else. ;)
|
RE: wid meat
elk.
|
RE: wid meat
Mule deer is very good, had bear once from an old boar I harvested up in Maine.I did' nt care for it,a bit strong.Maybe because it was from an older Bear.

RE: wid meat
Caribou, moose and then ruffed grouse. And by the way, it really can be hard to beat a young black bear roast. The worst, an old boar black bear.
|
RE: wid meat
Bush beef has my vote :D:D
|
RE: wid meat
A well conditioned spring spiker deer.
Sika and Fallow are real good. Nothing wrong with Wapiti. Also have to include Roast Wild Boar on the list. Haven' t tasted Moose or Bear. |
RE: wid meat
Of the ones I have tried i haven' t found one i don' t like yet Moose is my fav but my bear I got this year is awesome to
|
RE: wid meat
Axis deer. Wild turkey is high on my list too.
When I was in the Peace Corps (Zaire) pangolin aka scaly anteater was the primo bush meat. So good they' re endangered just about everywhere they live.[I didn' t know it at the time and regret killing the 3 I got back then] |
RE: wid meat
Pronghorn heart & liver. Good luck.
|
RE: wid meat
I believe it has a lot to do with what a animal is feeding on , But after trying most of everything , I would say Caribou is my favorite, with moose running not far behind...BT
|
RE: wid meat
well, i dont think there is much that i dont like, but probably deer, and then the rest
|
RE: wid meat
Moose and Elk run a tie for my fav. A close second is whitetail deer, antelope, caribou & upland game. Following up in third is geese, ducks and mule deer. The best I ever tasted was bighorn sheep...but since i can't hunt them I ain't picking them. The worst I ever tasted was black bear shot here in Saskatchewan but I have heard mountains bears provide better table eats.

RE: wid meat
Elk, Deer Black Bear. Gotta cook Bear slow. Bear roast in the crock pot is good as food gets.
|
RE: wid meat
I like it all, but if I had to choose one it would have to be elk and deer, followed closely by bear and antelope. With all of you talking about how good moose is, it makes me want to hunt them more and more....:D
|
RE: wid meat
1. Alligator tail
2: Quail 3: Deer 4: Rabbit 5: Dove |
RE: wid meat
Ben , your right I forgot about Alligator tail ,I would have to size with you there, I had it while hunting turkeys in FL. it is good...BT
|
RE: wid meat
1. Moose (I've only had elk twice but both times it would tie with moose)
2. Whitetail 3. Caribou 4. Ruffled grouse 5. Pheasant 6. Cottontail I've never been a big fan of bear. I usually only keep a couple of roasts for the slow cooker, and make the rest into pepperettes, and sausage. The only reason I even buy a bear tag every fall is that since the government banned spring hunting, I've noticed a substantial increase in bear numbers on my families land. I don't mind seeing the odd bear, but when there gets to be so many, they start becoming a real pain in the a$$. Last year our trash shed went through 2 plywood doors. |
