Which gun for elk... 7mm Mag or 300 Ultra?
I' m going on my first elk trip to the Rockies next year. I have the option of taking my 7mm Rem. Mag. loaded with 160 gr. Barnes XLC X-Bullets, or using my brother' s .300 Ultra Mag.
I' ll be able to practice as much as I want with either gun, so familiarity won' t be a problem. What should I do? Should I start looking for a good handload for the .300?? |

Either of these guns will do the job just fine.Which do you shoot better? have better accuracy with??Personally, I prefer to use my gun, don' t borrow guns as I don' t want to " hurt" some elses rig.

Either will work fine. The differences I see in the two firearms are the 7mm is faster but the 300 ultra mag has more knockdown power

Stuck in the reeds-You must be too deep in the reeds as the 300ultramag produces more velocity with the 180gr bullet than the 7mmremmag produces with a 160gr bullet.

You don' t need to borrow a rifle for elk when you own a 7mm mag! Just go hunting with what you have and shoot an elk. |

The 7mm mag is a good elk rifle, will do the job just fine. The 300 is a better elk rifle. If it were me I' d just stick to the 7 mag because its mine and it' ll work just fine.

Your choice of the 160 grain Barnes X bullet seals the deal. You have a fine elk rifle. use it.
