Sometimes we need a reminder...

Be careful out there y'all. Remember the basics. Follow the rules. -Jake |
Link doesn't work.

That worked, thanks. I suspect the investigation will go on for a while.

Both links worked. A very sad situation that should have been avoidable.

I have seen an accidental discharge in person and strict muzzle control is always something to follow. In the case I saw, a few of us were shooting clay birds. One of the shooters had a double barrel shotgun and put 2 shells into it and when he closed the action it went off. it turned out the gun was something that was handed down to him from his deceased father and wasn't something he ever used. The gun was obviously defective and could have resulted in a bad accident but luckily he turned away from the rest of us when he started the loading process. He was as shocked as the rest of us and proper gun handling practices saved an accident from happening.

There are rules to follow that I am sure most of us here follow, such as safety on until you are ready to shoot, do not put your finger on the trigger till you are ready to shoot, point your muzzle in a safe direction etc. However until the investigation is completed we won't know why someone died. It would not be the first time in PA that a murder was tried to be hidden as a hunting accident. That is why the law was changed to from not being a crime unless you shot a human being in mistake for game to shooting someone as a result of careless or negligence is a crime. As it stands now we do not know if the shooting was intentional or unintentional. I Had a good friend I went to school with that killed his son when he stepped into a groundhog hole and shot his son who was in front of him and killed him, it was a case of safety off for some reason and muzzle not under control. These kinds of publicity do none of us any good.

TAB-K
Dont know it? Look it up! A safety on ay firearm is nothing more than a mechanical device to prevent trigger pull and unfortunately they can fail. Some firearms don't have one. Muzzle Control is a MUST at all times! Even when falling down! JW |

Yup for sure

You can take all hunting firearm incidents and find a TAB-K rule that was not followed! In some cases more than 1!
Safe Hunting is No Accident. JW |
Yup talking safety never gets old.
|
Hate to hear about anybody getting hurt. 3 seconds of safety will prevent stuff like this
|
^^^^ What he said. It's impossible to shoot someone if you're not pointing your gun at them or have an unlucky ricochet. Even with one of those faulty Remington 700 triggers.

We forget the basics and that gets us in trouble. Sad story!

As flags said..3 seconds is all it takes to unchamber the round before crossing an obstacle. I'm sure we're all guilty of it. Muzzle control #1 -Jake |
Article in this morning's paper regarding a 71 year old hunter from Elizabethtown PA shot in the head by a juvenile hunter who was a relative while shooting at a deer on a power line in Cambria Co. PA. The victim was 300 yards away. Sounds like no one was watching the background of the line of fire.

I saw that as well. Sad. .
