1st Bear!!
1 Attachment(s)
Went out with a veterans organization to SE Oklahoma and was lucky enough to arrow this bear this past Sunday. Not big for most states but average for here. Bear season hasn't been a thing here for very long and up until recently there was a quota of 20 a season statewide. The game warden that checked it in estimated to be just over the 200 lb mark.
7 vets where hunting this 2.5 day hunt and we were able to put a tag on 2 bear. Pretty dang good success and we got to make several new friends to boot. Any Vets that are on Huntingnet I highly recommend looking up some veteran organizations in your state and getting involved. You will be surprised and what a difference it can make in yours and others lives. |

Just checked the wildlife department website for here and there were only 72 bears taken last season state wide!

Way to go Kelly! Nice looking bear.

Congrats. In 2 weeks I will be in CO trying to fill a bear tag. If I am successful it will be my 3rd bear and probably my last. What you have there is exactly what I am looking for. A good eating sized bear with a good skin I can have soft tanned and use as a throw over the back of the couch since I already have 2 made into rugs with an open mouth.

Congratulations!
I remember my first bear, good memories. |
Well done Kelly. I hope to secure my 4th bear tag in 2022
The other 3, well family first. love nothing.more than whack a bear with my sharps black powder. Well done sir. And thank you for your service. JW |
Congratulations Kelly on getting your bear! This year up here a majority of bears are getting tagged in the 200 to 250 range as well as a few bruins coming around the 500 mark..

congrats on your first bear!

Thank yall! Got the pelt up at the taxidermist now for a rug and just got the meat back. I also kept the fat. Looking forward to rendering it down and cooking with it this year.
I process the deer I take but was unsure of the best way to do a bear so had the processor do it. Backstraps sliced thin, kept 1 roast then ground the rest, had it split between ground, brats and Jalapeno and cheddar summer sausage. |
Good for you, would love to join sometimes.

How heavy is that bear? It looks really young though.
