It’s been a long week and our weather had been running in the mid 70s. The bulls were cowed up and would not come to any calls period. So after hunting hard all week we only saw 3 cows. We walked a lot and called as well as simply trying to wait them out. Still nothing would show themselves. So we never scored this year. But we enjoyed the time out there and saw a few grouse everyday as well as a lot of hunters. There was a quite a few other hunters going empty handed this time as well. The last day we mostly road hunted and sat in the Jeep and tried some scraping on the bushes. Because it has been a wet rainy day and the Mrs didn’t want to walk around in it. I had found a two point shed antler yesterday and we had a nice buck run out in front of us. So it gives us one to look for this fall anyway.
I didn’t think that the Mrs was not going to stick it out but she did and enjoyed it all..

hey hunting isn't all about a kill, to me, its about enjoying the time afield
so I am glad you's gave things a good go,
but in the end, I
as long as you's enjoyed the hunt, that's what really matters, always next yr and the one after that to try again if you want too!

Thank you both and I will keep applying as well as move up to an area farther north in that zone. It’s by lottery and my wife’s first time hunting other than a few times while driving the dirt roads.. Now she wants to go hunting with me more often. So maybe in the end things will be getting better in the hunting area..

Sorry you didn't score but thats the way hunting is. It was very warm here and I'm sure was the same over in Maine. Not good weather for hunting anything.

Exactly part of the reason why we didn’t have much luck. In the area that we hunted in I think only one moose was tagged out of there. They did do a little better farther north in our zone. It was around 74 most of the week and then rain moved in all day Saturday. Just wasn’t good hunting in that stuff..

Thank you CI

Yeah warm temps are never good for trying to hunt large bodied big game animals. Moose in particular expend too much energy and overheat when it gets up in the 70's. Always next time Phil.

We hope a next time the permits are very hard to get with our lottery. But I know that I will keep trying. My wife has to wait 3 years before she can put in again. But she can put in to add up points until she can apply again..

Good luck with your lottery, and hope you are successful next time out there.
