Whitetail/Mulie cross
 

Who else has seen them? I' ve seen one for sure,Mulie body with whitetail rack, 5 pt.s per side. Didn' t shoot it cause how would I tag it?[:o]

I saw a hunt for them on TV once. They said that the only way to know for sure if it was a cross was to do a DNA test on them, but you can pretty much tell just by looking at them. I have no idea what tag they put on it.

Shoot it and tag it with either tag. If it is a cross then it would be legal either way, right?;) I have never heard of a tag specifically for a cross mulie-whitetail.

In Wyoming most tags are for antlered deer. It doesn' t make any difference if it' s whitetail or mulie, it' s just got to have horns.

Here in Alberta tags are both gender and species specific,whitetail doe,muley buck etc.. Can' t just tag ' em and drag' em, got to be careful which tag goes on

I have seen them,alot when you hunt the lower elevations where both speciecs are abound,I have also seen white-tail with strange racks,and a black tiped tail,but the under side is a white flag.

If it has a white rump and is gray,it' s still a mule deer.I have heard this argument befor at a check station.

i think i saw one this wkend, it had a mullie body with whitetail antlers on it, it was a wide rack on a mullie and not verry tall at all. but i dont know for sure.i do believe the guy tagged it with a mullie tag.

I would have to agree with BBJ. I have a friend that shot a buck that had a mule deer body & whitetail horns. The game wardens told him they would call it a mule deer on the check station report.

The size of the inner glands on the hind legs will tell if its a MD WT or hybrid. You can look up info on this in many places. I know this from one of my classes in college. Its been long enough ago though that I can not remember what size of glands went with what kind of deer.

Why not ask your local Game Warden or game biologist? They are the only ones that can tell you for sure how to handle the situation. The biologist would probably be the only one that could be sure the animal was a cross anyway, they don' t look at things the same as normal people.
