Management or Trophy Mulie Buck?
 

Looking for opinions, do you consider this deer a trophy buck or a management buck? Clearly it is very unusual and of course everyone has different standards. Just looking for opinions, thanks.

Looking at the mass he has, he appears to be a mature buck. If I was on a “trophy” hunt, I would not consider him a trophy. He is a narrow 4x4 with brows, a sticker, and is mature. I would consider him a management buck. You probably would prefer to have a wider more classic looking Mulie breeding than this guy. With that said, someone who hasn’t killed a Mulie or many deer for that matter may consider him a trophy. And there would be nothing wrong with that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I wouldn;t call it a trophy buck or a managiment buck
to me its just a mule deer bucks
when you start labeling thing like this, it sort of indicates your hunting on a managed ranch/property
and when your doing this
it comes down to the rules on SAID property and then its there rules to follow or not

some places have lower standards, some don't

a lot many times comes down to location of the hunt


as to be honest the TROPHY status is in the eye of the beholder
unless your ONLY using a antler scoring system
and considering the WHOLE HUNT, to judge whether its a trophy to the hunter or not!


to me that is a very good free ranging mule deer for the average hunter!
not a record book deal nor a small one

and odd's are it might even score pretty high with all the mass
many B&C class bucks make score on mass and NOT just width!

This is certainly an unusual buck. The width of his antlers keep him from scoring well so I do not think of him as a traditional trophy buck. To me he is so odd that I would probably take him if given the opportunity, but I think he is a management buck.

Certainly unique! And that can make it a "trophy" no doubt. But if you were managing a property it may not be a buck you want spreading the goods.

Buck was taken mid November on the ranch myself and others lease. We have a agreement with the ranch owners with how many trophy bucks we can shoot. My friend took this buck, he obviously was satisfied with the buck. We both thought it was a good animal. I reckon it is 5.5 yrs old or so, at it's peak. I thought it should be counted as a management buck, ranch owner thinks a trophy class animal. There will always be differences of opniion, lol.

Ah...I see. Depends on who's looking at it I suppose.

well what did the buck score
as if were talking trophy SIZE as a ruler to judge quality of bucks, most ALL ranches and hunters I know use the B&C score system
to determine if its a trophy or not
