Wyoming Antelope Type 1 vs Type 2 hunt?

I have read through the excellent "sticky post" on Wyoming Antelope hunting. I don't think I saw my question answered there, so I post here.

There are different Wyoming antelope hunt types. I can generally understand the differences between the types, but I do NOT understand the difference between a Type 1 license and a Type 2 license. I see that in 2020 unit 23 offered 177 type 1 permits and 1179 type 2 permits; unit 24 offered 156 type 1 permits and 366 type 2 permits; unit 29 offered 12 type 1 permits and 320 type 2 permits. I notice that 3+ preference points were required to draw a type 1 permit in unit 29 but basically 0 points were required to draw a type 2 permit in unit 29.

What's the deal? What is the difference between type 1 and type 2 permits? Are there different season dates? Maybe the type 1 permit is for the front end of the season and gives trophy hunters best odds at taking big bucks while the type 2 permit is later and hence less likely to have a good shot at the trophy bucks?

Different seasons I think. Both allow for any antelope. Wyoming's website is a little confusing.

IF I remember correctly.... And this is A big if... I'd call wyo directly.
Type 2 licences are limited somehow. Either by dates or location I.E. good in unit 23 south of such and such a road.

It's a limited tag.

That's by my memory, which isn't very good. I'm at deer camp and can't look at my antelope notes at home.

Yikes! If type 2 licenses are limited by location as in only part of a zone or unit, you would really want to make sure you have a place to hunt lined up and carefully plotted on a GPS.

I think you will find that 1 is for the entire area and 2 is for the large sections of private property. If you apply for a type 2 tag you had better have permission to hunt on some private land.

Type 1 is usually "any antelope" (buck or doe) available entire area. Type 2 is usually "private land only". I know 23 is mostly private land. this CAN VARY BY AREA!

WY site has a "hunt planner" that explains most of it.
