Clem, you are one lucky guy, especially being you got her so close to the truck. I used the same Barnes bullet on my Kudu and Zebra when I went to South Africa a 3-4 years ago. I shot the 150gr with my 280Rem. The Kudu, dropped on the spot and the Zebra ran about 40 yds. My bullet's mushroom looked just like yours. :)

Thanks Ed. But honestly I don't believe in luck. I used to have a sign over my desk where I worked that said. "LUCK - That point in time when preparation and opportunity come together".
I thoroughly believe that and also believe that our God in in complete control over everything and blessed me with the opportunity to harvest such a nice animal.

Congrats on drawing a highly coveted PA elk tag as well as getting yourself a great animal. Hopefully someday it will happen for me as well as all those other folks who keep applying for a PA tag. Great story, nice elk and isn't it nice having an easier drag? (easier being the operative word).

Congrats on your PA. Elk. I have been putting in for awhile, I have 11 preference points built up. Hopefully, I'll get drawn soon.

I've been applying since the onset of the elk hunting season I believe back in 2001. So its been a long time coming. I've heard of guys being drawn in their first or second year! I'm going to continue applying and hopefully I'll get that super bull tag in a good area. This up coming year I will apply for all 5 seasons. The area where I had my tag was mighty rough country. I've been to WY, MT and ID on elk hunts and this area is just as tough as far as terrain.
AS for the drag, yes I'm glad it was downhill and not too far. I never knew two old men could grunt and groan so much. Our backs are still recovering and its been 3 weeks.
Our plan next time if one of us draws a tag is to have a protable 12V winch on a base that we can mount to a tree and carry a 12 battery or jump starter strapping it from tree to tree and winch the elk to the vehicle!
