My conclusion is thus; when the rut is is more important than moon phase to the behavior of elk. The autumnal equinox is the 22nd, which is commonly believed to be the peak period, and so I'll be going the week prior to that. The 16th. Getting in them just as the rut is peaking and not after the herds (bulls) are established.
