Favorite hunting TV show.

I wanted to see if there is a good hunting show on the Sportsman channel or Outdoor channel that I might be missing? I enjoy the following shows in no particular order; Jim Shockey, Eastmans, Most Wanted List, Pig Man and Driven. I am sure I left a few off that I have forgotten about?
What shows are good one's that I should set my DVR to record?

Thanks.

Raised Hunting, Drury Outdoors, The Crush. I actually watch more YouTube now than Outdoor tv shows.

The only one I watch is Jim Shockey Uncharted. The rest are a joke. I can only watch someone sitting in a tree stand so much. Shockey hunts all over the world and gets into places most of us will never see. He had one on markhor in Pakistan not long ago. Americans can't hunt Pakistan due to visa and passport restrictions but Shockey is Canadian so he can. He also went out with the eskimos on a traditional whale hunt.

I stopped watching all hunting shows many years ago because most of them disgusted me. I will say, I have no problem with Shockey, I just don't watch any, any more.

MeatEater is a good one too.

My favorite is MeatEater :p

i always thought Tom Miranda was for real . i don't get that channel anymore and can't remember the name . some of his kills were impressive ..i would admit sometimes , i don't think i could have done that:cool2:

Although Homer's best friend had a TV show of his own ...

I've long felt that range time, or even equipment maintenance, is a far more productive and superior use of my idle time than watching anything on TV, to include "hunting" shows. Many of these are more about advertising for the sponsor and outfitter than offer anything valuable in terms of method or species.

Just like the fishing shows made everyone think they needed a fully-rigged bass boat with a 350-horse outboard to catch crappie and bluegill, hunting shows often further the notion that all you need to hunt is gear and a nice truck.

Sasquatch.....It's so bad it's actually humorous.

More seriously, I like all of the hunts for moose, caribou, sheep, etc....real hunts. As much as I love hunting whitetails, I can't stand to watch 99% of the whitetail hunts on tv. If you've seen one buck killed from a tree stand or a blind, you've seen them all. Ditto for turkey hunting...I never watch them. And High Fence/Preserve hunts should be banned from tv!!!!!

As far as personalities, I do enjoy Jim Shockey, Melissa Bachman, and Cody Robbins just to mention a couple.

My pet peeve with hunting shows are:

1. People acting like idiots....shaking their fist, saying stupid stuff, etc. when they kill an animal.
2. Obnoxious music (like loud, blaring electric guitars).
3. Whispering: I'm old. I can't hear. I can't understand a word they say. I much prefer shows that are narrated rather than some guy or gal whispering something no one can hear.

Liv2hunt 01-23-2018 04:06 AM

Dean Partridge's Canadian Whitetail TV. Is Awesome. Who don't like a big fat guy that shoots monster bucks?

Billford99 01-23-2018 07:36 AM

MeatEater is a good show. It's about a man who travels around the vast wilderness hunting various animals.

I would reccomend the Born and Raised outdoor crew on YouTube. They're real hunters that show the ups and downs of hunting elk on public land. I won't watch anymore of the outdoor or sportsmans channel because it all seems so unrealistic and they're always successful.

Completely agree.

Ditto, many of the reasons that after decades of watching hunting shows on weekends I no longer do so. There are still some good off shore fishing shows though.

AndyWalker 02-13-2018 12:36 PM

Western Hunter

JoeA 02-20-2018 12:23 PM

There's a couple I like. Western Extreme, The Flush, Solo Hunter, True Magnum, and Archer's Choice are a few I like. I DVR several others too.

davidg 02-20-2018 12:48 PM

how about the Nuge .. Spirit of the wild .. too bad i don't get those channels anymore .. boo hoo

Oldtimr 02-20-2018 12:53 PM

The Nuge, surely you jest! I would rather watch fruit rot that watch him.

davidg 02-20-2018 02:07 PM

you gotta be kiddin' .. i admit he's goofy as a run over squirrel , and he tells too many truths but i love his hunts and always loved his music .. opinions

Oldtimr 02-20-2018 02:12 PM

He is an idiot! He is a self loving arrogant poor excuse for a sportsman. I do not want the likes of him representing hunting sportsmen, he is the epitome of a bad example. He does more harm than good for sportsmen, running his mouth. I would not hunt in the same county as him, someone might think I am with him.

RyanT 02-24-2018 06:21 AM

Meat Eater is my fav. Like the way that Rinella talks a little about the historical aspects of his hunts, and also shows how he cooks different cuts of meat.

MeatEater and Jim Shockey are good one.

NONE why sit on your duff --watching reality t v -- just go and do it

clearwateralaskaoutfitter 03-26-2018 12:08 AM

Well, I do agree with Hatfield. Don't waste your time on watching reality TV shows. Just go and experience it in real.

Muley Hunter 05-07-2018 08:58 AM

They all suck! I dropped the channel.

TheDude727 11-09-2018 03:37 PM

Meateater is the only show for me. The host, Steven Rinella, is a really intelligent guy and I feel like I learn something every episode.

t.shaffer 11-10-2018 07:44 AM

i like jim shockey's shows & used to like greg ritz's show. jim shockey is about the only one who has not been busted big time by wildlife officers . greg ritz ted nugent & a whole slu of other tv show hunters have been busted big time from hunting before or after hours . not properly license in that state. & other stupid broken laws .these guys are not your typical hunters all have big time sponsors & hi fence areas. another thing that disturbs me is they shoot early in the morning & show recovery @ nite time whats that all about ?
