love hunting black bear. they are VERY good to eat if it hasn't been eating fish all summer. never heard anything good about how griz tastes... all the natives in BC avoid it like the plague. it is a big plus when you like to eat what you like to hunt.

Do you have any close relatives who live there? They make some kind of familial relation exception in place of a guide for brown/grizzly bear, dall sheep and mountain goat.

Alaska has many varying climates and not all of the state suffers extreme cold. Here an interesting site for low 48ers that have the Alaskan dream of visiting or moving there at some point.

Spot on. The east in general produces bigger black than their western counterparts. Virginia should not be overlooked, either, especially with heavy weights, a large population and plenty of public land offered. Where bear records are concerned, VA, uses a points system based mainly on the size of the skull, not overall weight, for records. That said, VA. has produced some heavy blacks.
